About the Role

As a member of our Responsible AI team, you will be immersed in the fascinating world of large-scale language models and multimodal AI systems. Your primary focus will be on identifying, measuring, and mitigating fairness-related harms that can emerge from generative AI technologies. This includes addressing issues such as generalization, stereotyping, disparagement, or erasure of particular groups—challenges that are at the heart of creating truly inclusive AI systems.

What You'll Do

In this role, your work will be both intellectually challenging and practically impactful. You will:

• Develop central resources and tooling for identifying, measuring, or mitigating potential damages caused by generative AI systems. These tools will be used across the organization to ensure that AI products and services meet the highest standards of fairness and responsibility.


• Collaborate with product teams who are committed to building responsible AI into their products from the ground up. You will serve as a subject matter expert, providing guidance and technical expertise to help teams integrate fairness considerations into their development processes.


• Contribute to and potentially lead research projects that push the boundaries of the state-of-the-art in responsible AI. Your work will help advance our understanding of how to create AI systems that are both powerful and ethical.


• Monitor research advances in the field of AI ethics and fairness, staying current with the latest academic papers, industry developments, and best practices. You will apply this knowledge to shape your applied research work and ensure that arenaflex remains at the cutting edge.


• Work with partners from diverse backgrounds, including both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will need to communicate complex technical concepts to audiences with varying levels of AI expertise, making strong communication skills essential.


• Present your work to internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership at arenaflex. You will have the opportunity to advocate for responsible AI practices and influence the direction of our AI strategy.


• Approach fairness as a sociotechnical challenge, recognizing that AI fairness cannot be solved by algorithms alone. You will consider the broader social, cultural, and ethical contexts in which AI systems operate.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking candidates who are not only technically skilled but also deeply committed to the principles of responsible AI development. The ideal candidate will have:

Required Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related quantitative field, plus at least 4 years of related experience in statistics, predictive analysis, or research.


• OR a Master's degree in one of the above fields plus at least 3 years of related experience.


• OR a Doctorate in one of the above fields plus at least 1 year of related experience.


• Experience implementing responsible AI principles (such as fairness, transparency, or accountability) in practice.


• Proficiency in coding with at least one general-purpose programming language such as Python, Java, Scala, C#, or C/C++.


• A strong passion for prioritizing diversity, inclusion, and fairness in AI development.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced degrees (Master's or Doctorate) in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field with additional years of relevant experience.


• Direct experience working at the intersection of generative AI and responsible AI, trust, and safety.


• A nuanced understanding of fairness as a sociotechnical challenge rather than purely an algorithmic one.


• Experience working with products and services that incorporate generative AI technologies.


• A proven track record of working effectively in interdisciplinary teams spanning multiple roles and areas of expertise.


• The ability to collaborate successfully with partners who have diverse technical and non-technical backgrounds.


• Strong self-direction and the ability to quickly ramp up on new domains, including by reading and synthesizing academic papers.


• The capability to work independently and navigate complex, unfamiliar codebases with minimal supervision.


• Intellectual curiosity and a genuine enthusiasm for tackling real-world challenges that have significant societal implications.
