This is a unique opportunity for individuals who want to combine their love of sports with their analytical skills. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of sports data that powers arenaflex's extensive product portfolio. Whether it's updating scores on our television network, maintaining standings on our website, or providing real-time statistics for our innovative fantasy sports platforms, you will play a critical role in delivering the data that fans trust and rely upon every single day.
At arenaflex, we believe that great sports coverage starts with meticulous attention to detail. Our Data and Information division is the backbone of our entire operation, producing elite-level data, insights, and storytelling that keep sports fans coming back to arenaflex for depth and perspective. We are looking for team members who share our commitment to quality, our drive for innovation, and our passion for serving sports fans everywhere.
Position Overview
As a Part-Time Statistics Analyst I within arenaflex's Data and Information department, you will be an integral part of our Statistics and Analysis team. Scores and statistics on virtually all arenaflex platforms — including our television network, the Bottom Line, arenaflex.com, Fantasy, and Game Cast — are produced and maintained by this dedicated team. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the accuracy of this data, including scores, schedules, standings, leaderboards, and more, across all arenaflex platforms globally.
In addition to maintaining data accuracy, Statistics Analysts at arenaflex are also responsible for helping transform statistics into compelling storylines. You will need to recognize statistical events that explain why a team won or lost, and work to present this information in ways that enhance the viewer's understanding and enjoyment of the game. This position requires individuals with particular training, skills, and knowledge — such as backgrounds in mathematics, economics, databases, SQL programming, and similar fields — who can apply their expertise to support Data and Information initiatives and storytelling efforts.
Key Responsibilities
As a Statistics Analyst I at arenaflex, you will be entrusted with several critical responsibilities that keep our sports data operations running smoothly:
- Ensure data accuracy and timeliness: Maintain the highest standards of accuracy for all sports data distributed by the Data and Information team. This includes ensuring that all scores, schedules, standings, lists, and other statistical information are delivered accurately, punctually, and intelligently across all arenaflex platforms worldwide.
- Work in individual and group settings: Collaborate effectively with team members to deliver accurate statistical breakdowns, clock-and-score updates, and various measurements and data in real-time. This data powers numerous arenaflex products and productions, making your work essential to our overall operation.
- Develop working knowledge of arenaflex products: Create and maintain an active understanding of how the Data and Information team fuels arenaflex's digital products and television productions. The more you know about our entire ecosystem, the more valuable you become to the team.
- Perform quality assurance: Verify the results of your own work and that of others. Perform with a consistently high attention to detail, as even small errors can impact millions of viewers and users.
- Contribute to production and operations: Add to production, operations, and initiatives across the newsroom. Assist newsroom leaders who are coordinating full-time and part-time staff members.
- Anticipate and solve problems: Expect potential issues, both daily and long-term, and develop viable solutions. Communicate rapidly and decisively with colleagues about these issues.
- Process improvement: Play a proactive role in working with colleagues to develop or refine production processes. Your insights can help make the entire team more efficient and effective.
- Team participation: Be an active participant in team and division meetings. Your voice and perspective matter to our collaborative culture.
- Embrace feedback: Seek and respond to feedback about your personal performance. Continuous improvement is at the heart of what we do at arenaflex.
- Stay informed: Remain updated on current office policies and procedures. Adherence to established protocols ensures smooth operations across the team.
Required Qualifications
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following essential requirements:
- Sports knowledge: Working knowledge of teams, players, and the rules of the games you will be covering. You should be genuinely passionate about sports and stay current with developments across multiple sports leagues.
- Schedule availability: Full schedule availability, which will include evenings (exclusively), weekends, and holidays. Sports don't stop, and neither does arenaflex. You must be willing to work the hours when games are being played.
- Quick learning ability: Ability to rapidly learn production processes that produce and/or maintain sports data that drives arenaflex's digital and television products. Our systems are sophisticated, but we provide comprehensive training.
- Accuracy under pressure: Ability to achieve a high level of content accuracy in time-sensitive production circumstances. When the game is on the line, precision is paramount.
- Communication skills: Ability to communicate confidently — verbally and in writing — to production managers and colleagues about production issues and opportunities, often through the noise of a busy newsroom environment.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will give you a competitive edge in the application process:
- Industry experience: One or more years of working in sports and/or statistics, preferably in a media environment. Experience in sports journalism, sports analytics, or related fields is highly valued.
