Position Overview

arenaflex is currently seeking a talented and dedicated English Language Arts Tutor to join our educational team in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and the surrounding areas including Signal Mountain and Hixson. This is a part-time position ideal for experienced educators, retired teachers, graduate students, or professionals seeking flexible work arrangements who possess a strong background in language arts, reading, and writing instruction.

As an English Language Arts Tutor at arenaflex, you will play a pivotal role in helping students develop essential literacy skills that will serve them throughout their academic careers and beyond. You will work one-on-one with students at the middle school and high school levels, providing personalized instruction that addresses their unique learning needs, strengthens their understanding of literary concepts, and builds their confidence as readers and writers.

This position offers the flexibility of in-home tutoring, allowing you to create a comfortable and conducive learning environment while building meaningful relationships with students and their families. Key Responsibilities

As a valued member of the arenaflex tutoring team, you will be responsible for the following essential duties:

Delivering Personalized ELA Instruction: Provide one-on-one tutoring sessions in English Language Arts, focusing on reading comprehension, literary analysis, writing composition, grammar, and vocabulary development for middle and high school students.

Creating Engaging Lesson Plans: Develop well-structured, age-appropriate lesson plans that align with students' academic goals, curriculum standards, and individual learning styles. Each session should include clear objectives, engaging activities, and opportunities for practice and reinforcement.

Supporting Homework and Test Preparation: Assist students with completing homework assignments, preparing for upcoming tests, and developing effective study strategies. Help students understand difficult concepts and build confidence in their academic abilities.

Building Reading Fluency and Comprehension: Implement strategies to improve students' reading fluency, speed, and accuracy while strengthening their ability to understand, interpret, and analyze written texts across various genres.

Teaching Writing Skills: Guide students through the writing process, including brainstorming, drafting, revising, and editing. Provide instruction in different writing styles such as expository, persuasive, narrative, and analytical writing.

Assessing Student Progress: Regularly evaluate student progress through observations, informal assessments, and written work. Use assessment data to inform instruction and make necessary adjustments to teaching strategies.

Documenting Session Outcomes: Prepare detailed session reports for the arenaflex office and families within twenty-four hours of each tutoring session, documenting topics covered, student performance, areas for improvement, and goals for future sessions.

Communicating with Families: Maintain professional and proactive communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress, scheduling, and any concerns or questions that may arise.

Managing Administrative Tasks: Complete required administrative duties including data entry, session logging, and maintaining accurate records of tutoring activities and student information.

Adapting to Diverse Learning Needs: Demonstrate flexibility and creativity in adapting teaching methods to accommodate students with varying learning styles, abilities, and educational backgrounds.

Addressing Test Anxiety: Implement strategies and techniques to help students manage test anxiety, build confidence, and perform optimally during examinations.

Participating in Ongoing Development: Engage in professional development opportunities, share best practices with colleagues, and stay current with educational trends and teaching methodologies in English Language Arts.

Essential Qualifications

arenaflex seeks candidates who possess the following minimum qualifications and attributes:

Educational Background: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in English, Education, Literature, or a related field is preferred. Candidates with equivalent experience and demonstrated expertise in English Language Arts will also be considered.

Teaching Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in the education field is strongly preferred. This may include classroom teaching, tutoring, instructional coaching, or related educational roles.

Tutoring Expertise: At least two years of experience specifically in tutoring or teaching English Language Arts, reading, writing, or related subjects is highly desirable.

Subject Matter Proficiency: Demonstrated strong knowledge of English grammar, composition, literature, reading comprehension strategies, and writing conventions.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and engage students in meaningful ways.
