About the Actuarial Improvement Program

Our Actuarial association drives to help business leaders with decisive thinking, organization, and end-to-end accountability for business results. We are focused on developing leaders who specialize in managing risk in an increasingly complex healthcare landscape. As a Statistician within arenaflex, you will use strong analytical skills, business knowledge, and understanding of human behavior to support the team in activities related to rating, reserving, estimating, data analysis, competitive intelligence, healthcare trend analysis, and tracking business results.

This program is specifically designed for individuals who are starting their careers in actuarial science and want to develop a comprehensive understanding of how data-driven insights shape the healthcare industry. You'll be mentored by experienced professionals who are passionate about helping you succeed.

What You'll Experience

Throughout the program, you'll participate in four rotations that will immerse you in key business areas and help you gain exposure to the following critical domains:


  • Risk Assessment: Understand the concept of specific risks and offer consequences of analysis to management. You'll learn how to evaluate potential risks facing healthcare organizations and develop strategies to mitigate them effectively.

  • Rate Filing: Compile and analyze filing data, then prepare and submit essential exhibits for regulatory filings. This hands-on experience will give you a deep understanding of the regulatory environment and compliance requirements.

  • Reserve Analysis: Analyze claim data and monitor reserve levels for feasibility, demonstrating an understanding of actuarial reserving methods and issues. You'll develop expertise in financial forecasting and liability assessment.

  • Planning and Forecasting: Provide technical support and analysis for planning, estimating, and reporting processes. You'll contribute to strategic decision-making through accurate financial projections.

  • Pricing, Trend, and Benefit Design: Develop and recommend pricing and trend for products and/or benefits. This area will help you understand the financial mechanics of healthcare product development.

  • Technical Capability: Develop innovative technical solutions to different problems. Demonstrate proficiency with spreadsheets and knowledge of database and online applications. Create and execute appropriate tools and models. Develop and resolve business requirements and specifications for processes, tools, and systems.

  • Work Environment: arenaflex follows a hybrid work model, providing flexibility to work between the office and telecommuting based on the work you need to accomplish. Relocation assistance will be provided for candidates who need to move more than 50 miles from their current location.

  • Visa Sponsorship: Work visa sponsorship is available for this position. This includes participation in Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), and F-1 Visa programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Meet educational requirements (see training area) – typically a bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Economics, or a related field

  • Have a willingness to relocate to a recognized Actuarial hub where our primary offices are located

  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Show enthusiasm for learning and professional development

  • Be eligible to work in the United States or obtain necessary work authorization

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following experiences and skills will help you stand out from other candidates:


  • Internship or work experience supporting Actuarial functions of an organization or group area

  • Demonstrated leadership experience – this could include dynamic roles in student or social organizations, sports teams, or community involvement

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience with analytical or coding software, such as SAS, Python, Excel, VBA, SQL, or R

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to support collaboration and create a positive environment to improve team effectiveness

  • Be adaptable and able to quickly and easily adjust to change

  • Passion for the healthcare industry and understanding of its unique challenges and opportunities
