Position Overview

Are you ready to lead a team that's transforming patient safety through cutting-edge artificial intelligence and machine learning? arenaflex is seeking an accomplished Director of Data Science, Patient Safety Analytics to drive our AI innovation initiatives and reshape how we approach pharmacy operations and patient care.

In this pivotal leadership role, you will report directly to the Executive Director of Patient Safety and Pharmacy Operations Analytics. You will be responsible for guiding our analytical strategy across more than 9,700 pharmacy locations, leveraging your technical expertise and product management acumen to develop AI-powered solutions that prevent patient safety events and optimize prescription dispensing processes. You will lead, train, and develop a high-performing team of data scientists dedicated to maintaining existing processes and pioneering innovative solutions for continuous quality improvement in our retail pharmacy units. Your work will form the foundation of our patient safety initiatives, utilizing systematically calculated solutions powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead AI-Driven Patient Safety Initiatives: Drive programs to improve patient safety and advance evidence-based practice arrangements using both traditional and AI/ML techniques. Develop and implement algorithms that predict and prevent potential safety events before they occur.

  • Engage with Enterprise Leadership: Leverage your deep technology expertise to engage with key leaders across the organization, identifying new applications of artificial intelligence in patient safety domains and proposing innovative solutions that address critical business challenges.

  • Business Requirements & Analysis: Input business requirements from diverse stakeholders, lead analysis of vast amounts of healthcare data, and synthesize strategies and methodologies to solve complex operational problems.

  • Testing & Validation: Direct or facilitate rigorous testing of analytical solutions, including machine learning and artificial intelligence implementations, to ensure results are consistent with business requirements and meet the highest standards of accuracy and reliability.

  • Communication & Presentation: Develop and present compelling, insight-driven materials on analytical findings with clear implications and action plans. Tailor communications for various audiences, including internal partners and senior leadership, translating complex technical concepts into actionable business strategies.

  • Team Development: Create and mentor data scientists, contribute to their learning and training plans, facilitate knowledge sharing sessions, and provide constructive feedback on technology stack utilization and professional development.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with business leaders and partners to inform strategy and innovation, prioritize analytical efforts, and define specific workplans and projects to execute across the retail pharmacy network.

  • Influence & Persuasion: Effectively influence and communicate with non-technical audiences using facts and well-reasoned examples, building consensus and driving adoption of data-driven solutions throughout the organization.

Required Qualifications


  • Leadership Experience: Minimum of 6+ years of experience leading and inspiring high-performance teams. Demonstrated ability to provide timely and consistent feedback to direct reports and hold team members accountable for achieving quality outcomes.

  • Strategic Thinking: Capacity to think analytically and strategically, including defining objectives, analyzing key elements, managing financial implications, evaluating risks, and developing strategies to achieve success.

  • Technical Development Background: 8+ years of experience in the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and agile development, with a focus on providing business requirements centered on data and analytics.

  • Healthcare Analytics Leadership: Strong leadership capabilities, strategic mindset, and experience driving highly technical teams focused on delivering data and analytics solutions in healthcare settings.

  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and consistently prioritize key objectives in a fast-paced environment.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to engage with senior business partners, execute level-appropriate communication, and demonstrate influential skills that drive positive outcomes.

  • Technical Proficiency: Deep experience in data modeling/analysis with SQL, Python, Tableau, and/or other advanced analytical tools. Comfortable working with large datasets and transforming raw data into actionable insights.

  • Passion & Energy: Highly energetic individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment, both working independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required (or equivalent experience in a related field).

Preferred Qualifications


  • Advanced Analytics Training: Strong analytical and data skills with solid training in statistics and data analysis, understanding of data management and visualization, and ability to interpret results of machine learning models.

  • Cloud Technologies: Experience using and managing projects utilizing Cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, AWS) with strong understanding of cloud-based analytics architectures.

  • Programming Expertise: Master-level programming skills in Python, R, TensorFlow, or other data science environments, with strong data management and reporting capabilities.

  • ML Deployment Experience: Understanding of deploying machine learning models in real-time production environments, including cloud-based systems and Flash-based architectures.

  • Project Management Excellence: Outstanding project management skills with the ability to lead and participate in multiple initiatives and drives, appropriately prioritizing both personal workload and that of direct reports while adapting to changing requirements to meet deadlines.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Highest level of attention to detail while working within legal and compliance regulations, particularly around HIPAA, patient safety work product, and attorney-client privilege when handling sensitive, confidential, and protected data.

  • Advanced Education: Master's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related STEM field preferred.

Compensation & Benefits

arenaflex offers a competitive compensation package that reflects your experience, education, and the value you bring to our organization. The salary range for this position is $70,000-$80,000 annually, with the actual base compensation determined by factors including experience, education, and geographic location.

In addition to your base salary, you will be eligible for arenaflex bonuses, commissions, or temporary incentive programs. You will also participate in our equity award program, sharing in the company's success.
