About the SPEeD Team

The Sortation Products Engineering and Data (SPEeD) team is at the heart of arenaflex's transportation operations. Our team is responsible for building scalable solutions that address the increasing operational complexity arising from the development of new processes and technologies. We are tasked with the critical mission of continuously improving our systems in service of our customers while developing new platforms and science-based planning tools to efficiently match processing supply to logistics demand.

This is a brand-new initiative and represents a tremendous growth opportunity. What You'll Do

As a Data Engineer in the SPEeD team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining our data infrastructure. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:


  • Data Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and maintain robust ETL pipelines that efficiently move and transform data across our vast network of sort centers.

  • Data Modeling: Create and implement data models that support our analytics and reporting needs, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.

  • Big Data Solutions: Work with massive datasets to develop solutions that can handle high-volume, low-latency requirements.

  • Cloud Infrastructure: Leverage AWS technologies to build scalable, reliable, and cost-effective data solutions.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product managers, senior engineers, and operational teams to understand requirements and deliver data-driven solutions.

  • Innovation: Identify opportunities to implement new technologies and approaches that improve efficiency and performance.

  • Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize data pipelines and queries to ensure maximum performance and reliability.

  • Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation for data models, pipelines, and processes.

Basic Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field

  • 3+ years of professional data engineering experience

  • Strong experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines

  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Java, Scala, or similar)

  • Experience with SQL and database design

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with AWS technologies including Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, Firehose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions

  • Experience with non-relational databases and data stores (object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, column-family databases)

  • Knowledge of big data frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, or similar technologies

  • Experience with machine learning workflows and MLOps practices

  • Understanding of data streaming architectures

  • Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes

  • Knowledge of logistics, supply chain, or transportation operations

  • Master's degree in a relevant field

Compensation and Benefits

arenaflex offers competitive compensation that reflects the cost of work across various US geographic markets. The base salary for this position ranges from $35 to $40 per hour, depending on your experience, skills, and the specific geographic market.
