Position Overview
The Senior Counsel, Digital Products & Data Analytics will provide expert legal counsel and strategic guidance to senior leadership and management across various business units. This role is essential to arenaflex's Digital and Data Analytics/Insights organizations, and you'll be responsible for helping to shape the legal framework that supports our innovative digital health initiatives.
This position offers the unique opportunity to work on a broad range of legal matters spanning technology transactions, product counseling, intellectual property, marketing, privacy, and security law. You'll serve as a generalist who can quickly learn new areas of law and legal skills while providing end-to-end product guidance to our digital teams.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Counsel at arenaflex, you will be responsible for:
- Providing Legal Counsel: Offer legal advice and recommendations to activity executives and management within various specialty units regarding issues of varying complexity that have or may impact business activities and operations.
- Technology Expertise: Demonstrate mastery in technology transactions, product guidance, intellectual property, marketing, and security and privacy laws. Be prepared to serve as a generalist and quickly learn new areas of law and legal skills while providing comprehensive product guidance.
- Business Agreement Negotiation: Structure and negotiate a variety of business agreements supporting arenaflex's Digital and Data Analytics/Insights Organizations, including master service agreements, vendor agreements, data licensing/integration agreements, and supply agreements.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with teams across arenaflex's Digital Product and Data Analytics groups and close external partners who are building, deploying, and operating technology for use by customers and patients.
- Collaborative Problem-Solving: Work cross-functionally with business, product, marketing, insurance, security, and technology teams to bring our digital product and service offerings to market.
- Product Understanding: Develop a thorough understanding of arenaflex's digital product and service offerings, technology, privacy/data protection systems and policies, and standard business and various agreements to provide a foundation for offering legal support throughout arenaflex's Digital teams.
- Strategic IP Management: Maintain an understanding of arenaflex's businesses, technology, and product goals and challenges to establish and implement intellectual property portfolio strategies that facilitate those goals, capture investment in innovation, and minimize legal risk, working closely with external counsel.
- Documentation Review: Review and prepare legal documents before presentation to management for execution to ensure accurate articulation of the legal substance.
- Legal Research: Research legal principles and precedents, engage and manage outside counsel, draft legal documents, compile relevant case-related information using multiple sources and methods.
- Team Guidance: Provide work guidance to other professional, paraprofessional, and clerical staff in developing solutions to issues presented.
- Trend Awareness: Maintain cash and awareness of legal and business trends that could affect the specialty units within arenaflex that you serve.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Education: Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of post-bar lawyer legal work experience in a combination of law firm and corporate settings.
- Bar Licensure: Current licensure to practice law in at least one U.S. state. Illinois bar membership or active bar admission on favorable terms in at least one U.S. jurisdiction is required.
- Time Management: Strong time management skills, including the ability to prioritize/organize and track details while meeting deadlines for multiple projects with varying completion dates.
- Financial Acumen: At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
- Leadership: A minimum of 5 years of direct leadership, indirect management, and/or cross-functional team leadership experience.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will make you an ideal candidate:
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment where prioritization and the ability to work independently are essential for success.
- Background in healthcare law, pharmaceutical regulations, or retail health legal matters.
- Familiarity with HIPAA and other healthcare privacy regulations.
- Experience with digital health products, telehealth services, or health technology platforms.
- Knowledge of intellectual property portfolio management and strategy.
- Experience negotiating complex technology agreements and data licensing arrangements.
