Position Overview: Senior Counsel, Digital Products & Data Analytics

Are you a strategic legal professional with a passion for technology and innovation? arenaflex is seeking an experienced Senior Counsel to join our Digital Products and Data Analytics legal team. This is a remarkable opportunity to provide legal guidance and strategic counsel to the leadership teams driving our digital transformation initiatives.

In this role, you will serve as a trusted legal advisor to senior executives and management across various business units, addressing complex legal issues that impact our digital product development, data analytics initiatives, and technology operations. You will be instrumental in structuring and negotiating business agreements that support our Digital and Data Analytics/Insights organizations, including master service agreements, vendor agreements, data licensing arrangements, and supply agreements.

Key Responsibilities


  • Strategic Legal Counsel: Provide legal advice and recommendations to executives and management within various business units regarding issues of varying complexity (essential to transitional) that have or may impact business activities and operations.
  • Technology Transactions Expertise: Demonstrate mastery in technology transactions, product guidance, intellectual property, marketing, and security and privacy laws. Be willing to serve as a generalist and quickly learn new areas of law and legal skills while providing end-to-end product guidance.
  • Agreement Negotiation: Structure and negotiate numerous business agreements on behalf of arenaflex's Digital and Data Analytics/Insights Organizations, including master service agreements, vendor agreements, data licensing/integration, and supply plans.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with teams across arenaflex Digital Product and Data Analysis groups and close external partners who are building, deploying, and operating technology for use by customers and patients.
  • Product Launch Support: Work cross-functionally with business, product, marketing, insurance, security, and technology teams to bring our digital product and service offerings to market.
  • Digital Product Understanding: Develop a comprehensive understanding of arenaflex's digital product and service offerings, technology, privacy/data protection systems and policies, and standard business and various agreements to provide a foundation for offering legal support throughout arenaflex Digital teams.
  • Intellectual Property Strategy: Maintain an understanding of arenaflex's businesses, technology, and product goals and challenges to establish and implement intellectual property portfolio strategies that facilitate those goals, capture investment in innovation, and minimize legal risk, working closely with external counsel.
  • Document Review: Review and prepare legal documents before presentation to management for execution to ensure accurate articulation of the legal substance.
  • Legal Research and Analysis: Research legal principles and precedents, engage and manage outside counsel, draft legal documents, gather relevant case-related information using multiple sources and methods, and provide work direction to other professional, paraprofessional, and clerical staff in developing solutions to issues presented.
  • Risk Mitigation: Collaborate with the business units served to achieve corporate objectives and mitigate unnecessary business risk while remaining aware of legal and business trends that could impact those business units.

Essential Qualifications


  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an accredited law school

  • Minimum of 5 years of post-bar attorney legal work experience in a combination of law firm and corporate settings

  • Required licensure to practice law in at least one state

  • Illinois bar admission or active bar admission on favorable terms in at least one U.S. jurisdiction

  • Demonstrated experience utilizing time management skills, such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace

  • Minimum of 5 years of direct leadership, indirect management, and/or cross-functional team leadership experience

Preferred Qualifications


  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where prioritization and the ability to work independently are requirements for success

  • Experience with technology transactions, digital products, and data privacy laws

  • Background in healthcare law or pharmaceutical regulations

  • Strong understanding of intellectual property law and portfolio management

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams in matrix organizations

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts for business stakeholders

Business Acumen: Understanding of how digital products and data analytics drive business value. You should be able to align legal strategies with business objectives and communicate the legal implications of business decisions in terms that resonate with non-legal stakeholders.

Strategic Thinking: The ability to anticipate legal risks and develop proactive solutions that protect arenaflex while enabling innovation and growth.

Negotiation and Communication: Strong negotiation skills for drafting and finalizing complex agreements, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate legal concepts clearly.

Leadership and Collaboration: Experience leading cross-functional teams and working collaboratively with business partners at all levels of the organization.

Adaptability: Comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where priorities may shift and new challenges emerge regularly.
