Position Overview

We are currently seeking a talented and motivated Media Engineer II to join our Night Shift team at our California facility. This is a full-time position operating from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM, perfect for those who thrive in evening hours and want to be at the forefront of media technology innovation.

The Media Engineer II role is ideal for professionals with hands-on engineering sustainment and design/build experience in the creation, production, and distribution of linear or digital video/audio content. In this position, you will be primarily focused on the sustainability of our existing technology infrastructure. You will serve as a crucial layer in our support model, handling incidents escalated from our frontline operations team and contributing to system integration projects, documentation, and preventive engineering initiatives.

As a Media Engineer II at arenaflex, you will leverage your experience to tackle increasingly complex problems with minimal support from senior engineers and can confidently perform integration tasks with minimal direction. Key Responsibilities

As a Media Engineer II, you will be responsible for:


  • Incident Response and Resolution: Respond to and resolve issues affecting production, broadcast, and content distribution across multiple arenaflex networks, including system outages, breakdowns, and related technical issues. Conduct diagnostic testing, repair, and replacement activities necessary to resolve common, specialized, and complex problems.
  • System Monitoring: Utilize system health and performance monitoring software and platforms to investigate and participate in fixing system issues and failures. Participate in system maintenance, install software patches, updates, and perform activities to resolve and avoid service issues.
  • Signal Analysis: Examine and investigate internet audio/video signals in traditional SDI and IP 2110 essence stream routing environments.
  • Cloud Platform Management: Investigate and explore cloud platforms as required for our distributed infrastructure.
  • Vendor Management: Manage third-party service providers by enforcing the agreed-upon scope of services within various support agreements, including full-time, independent, partner organizations, maintenance providers, contractors, and service providers.
  • Team Leadership: Select, train, motivate, and evaluate technical staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to address deficiencies; implement disciplinary procedures when necessary.
  • Equipment Management: Determine and secure equipment, supplies, and materials for media technology systems within budget guidelines; obtain and maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop long-range plans for future media technology needs, including capital improvements, to enhance production and distribution capabilities.
  • Policy Development: Assist in the development and execution of policies and procedures regarding technology operations with a focus on increasing the integration of all assets to meet business, marketing, and entertainment goals.
  • Operational Support: Provide operational support for migrations of all types related to operating, maintaining, and programming the audio and video production/distribution systems across the enterprise.
  • System Upgrades: Perform upgrades to system hardware and software workflows under the supervision of a more experienced engineer or manager.
  • Preventive Maintenance: Perform and coordinate preventive maintenance on all broadcast systems and equipment, such as distribution systems, switchers, consoles, playout servers, cameras, robotics, electromechanical equipment, automation systems, and radio facilities to ensure optimal transmission performance.
  • Project Participation: Participate in complex engineering activities at the direction of more experienced engineers.
  • Documentation: Review, maintain, and contribute to system/workflow documentation.
  • Training and Development: Participate in training and development objectives. Conduct peer training and development sessions.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as required to assist with achieving Business Objectives.

Required Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:


  • Experience: 3+ years of past and relevant experience in ensuring efficient sustainment, uptime, and overall security of the technical environments of live media production and distribution environments.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or comparable major, and/or equivalent work experience.
  • Technical Expertise: Proven troubleshooting and supporting experience in at least one of the following areas:

    • IP-based broadcast equipment including routers, switchers, audio consoles, signal processors, encoder/decoders, video scalers, playback systems, etc.

    • Studio technology including video walls, cameras, VR set technology, image processing systems, touch screens, lighting, etc.

    • File-based workflows like enterprise Media Asset Management systems (Cloud-based or On-Premise Network-based) including storage, compute, encode, and distribution.

    • Production control systems, such as automation systems, graphics systems, editing software, and other broadcast management tools.

    • Transmission systems such as RF (Radio Frequency), Satellite Distribution, Fiber Distribution, etc.


  • Cloud Experience: Proven history for investigating and sustainment knowledge of AWS Infrastructure and other cloud-based technologies including S3/Ice storage and cloud compute services.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to climb ladders, work on elevated structures and building rooftops, work on aerial lift platforms, and possess a valid driver's license.
  • Technical Drawing: Ability to create, read, and interpret AutoCAD and other technical drawing/documentation tools.

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications would be advantageous:


  • Knowledge and experience in on-prem and cloud-based storage and compute infrastructure platforms and current technical offerings.

  • Knowledge and experience with SMPTE standards for broadcast television and video production/streaming environments.

  • Knowledge and experience in compression techniques such as MPEG2/4, HEVC, JPEG 2000, and JPEG XS.

  • Knowledge and experience in software control systems, including frame control, routers, switches, and monitoring software.

  • Knowledge and experience in Nielsen (NACAT), VANC equipment, Direct Acoustics, and other related systems.

  • Knowledge and experience in hosted receiver decoders, central devices, edge devices, timing of video and audio systems, audio and video media file formats.
