Lead MMOD Systems Analyst

Cimarron is seeking a Lead MMOD Systems Analyst to help support one of our commercial space customers with MMOD analysis to aid in the design of their on orbit modules and systems. This position is expected to last 6-8 months.

This position is a fully remote opportunity.

Key Duties:

    •    Support studies balancing integrated system considerations (weight, thermal, power) with MMOD risk to identify optimal design solutions.

  • Support and maintain the Probability of No Penetration (PNP) and Loss of Crew (LOC) performance metrics for spacecraft subsystems.
  • Input to high-level safety requirements into detailed technical specifications for hardware components and subcontractors.
  • Participate in complex hypervelocity impact (HVI) test campaigns, including hardware specification
  • Direct the creation of new risk assessment tools and automated workflows to enhance the capabilities of Bumper 3 and integrated environment models.
  • Required Skills, Experience, and Education:


  • Due to facility security requirements, only U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible for consideration at this time.

  • 10 or more years of directly related experience in MMOD analysis, spaceflight structures, or orbital debris risk assessment.

  • Demonstrated experience with Bumper 3, including application of Ballistic Limit Equations (BLEs) and the 3-Part Analysis methodology for solar arrays and radiators.

  • Experience developing and maintaining Probability of No Penetration (PNP) and Loss of Crew (LOC) performance metrics for spacecraft subsystems.

  • Working knowledge of NASA-STD-8719.14 and its application to orbital debris mitigation and End-of-Mission planning.

  • Experience supporting hypervelocity impact (HVI) test campaigns including hardware specification and results interpretation.

  • Bachelor's degree.

Desired Skills, Experience, and Education:


  • 8 or more years of direct experience in spaceflight structures, MMOD shielding design, and HVI testing.

  • Deep understanding of Ballistic Limit Equations (BLEs), including the "3-Part Analysis" for solar arrays and radiators.

  • Advanced proficiency in LS-DYNA or CTH for simulating hypervelocity impact physics.

  • Mastery of NASA-STD-8719.14 (Process for Limiting Orbital Debris) and its application to End-of-Mission (EOM) plans.

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or Astrodynamics is strongly preferred for senior levels
