Position Overview

The Lead Data Engineer will play a critical role in advancing our cybersecurity capabilities through the design, development, and optimization of automated data pipelines. This position requires a deep understanding of data engineering principles, experience with distributed computing frameworks, and the ability to work effectively in a governed, regulated environment. Key Responsibilities

As a Lead Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be responsible for:

• Leading Complex Data Engineering Initiatives: Drive large-scale data pipeline projects with significant business impact, serving as a key contributor in strategic technology planning for the organization.


• Designing and Developing Data Solutions: Create, implement, and maintain robust data pipelines using modern technologies such as Airflow, Python, and Spark to support multiple cybersecurity use cases.


• Ensuring Data Quality and Integrity: Design, develop, and operate tooling to identify issues in data and systems, documenting findings and recommending solutions to engineering and product leadership.


• Conducting Technical Reviews: Review and analyze complex software enhancement projects for business, operational, or technical improvements, requiring comprehensive evaluation of multiple factors including intangibles and unique considerations.


• Making Strategic Technical Decisions: Exercise decision-making authority in complex and multifaceted data engineering scenarios, considering software package options, programming languages, and compliance requirements that impact technology deliverables.


• Collaborating Across Teams: Strategically partner with internal stakeholders to resolve highly complex data engineering challenges, fostering cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing.


• Maintaining Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all data processing activities adhere to industry regulations and internal policies, particularly those related to data security and privacy.


• Mentoring Team Members: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, promoting knowledge transfer and professional development within the team.

Required Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of Database Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through a combination of work experience, training, military experience, or education.


• Programming Expertise: Minimum of 2+ years of experience with programming languages including Spark, Python, or PySpark.


• Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of data pipeline architecture and development using modern data processing frameworks.


• Security Awareness: Familiarity with working in regulated environments and understanding of data governance principles.


• Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Desired Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications will be considered a strong advantage:

• Information Security Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of information security domains including Data Loss Prevention (DLP), Identity and Access Management (IAM), and vulnerability management.


• Airflow Expertise: Experience implementing and supporting complex Airflow Directed Acyclic Graphs (DAGs) for workflow orchestration.


• Data Format Proficiency: Hands-on experience working with various data formats including YAML, JSON, Parquet, and XML.


• Cybersecurity Data Experience: Direct experience working with cybersecurity datasets, metrics, and reporting frameworks.


• Distributed Computing Platforms: Experience with on-premise Hadoop distributions such as Cloudera, Hortonworks, or MapR.


• Cloud Platform Expertise: Public cloud experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Microsoft Azure.


• Cluster Technologies: Strong understanding of cluster technologies and clustered services architecture.


• Agile Methodologies: Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with strong familiarity of DevOps practices.
