Position Overview

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated IT Application Analyst to lead in designing, implementing, and delivering critical data solutions. This is a full-time position based in Austin, USA, offering competitive compensation at $26 per hour. As a key contributor to our data engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in building scalable data infrastructure, optimizing data pipelines, and ensuring the highest standards of data quality and reliability.

Key Responsibilities


  • Team Leadership: Supervise the engineering work of other specialists on the project, providing technical guidance and mentorship to ensure successful project delivery.

  • Solution Design: Design, develop, and deliver scalable and efficient data solutions that meet business requirements and support organizational growth.

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality, reliability, and security of data solutions through rigorous testing, monitoring, and continuous improvement practices.

  • Data Architecture: Build and deploy high-quality data architecture and pipelines to support business reporting requirements and enable data-driven decision-making.

  • Pipeline Monitoring: Monitor data pipelines and proactively identify and resolve any performance or reliability issues before they impact operations.

  • Data Quality Management: Ensure data quality and reliability by implementing data validation, error handling, and data cleansing strategies.

  • ETL Processes: Interact with different teams to extract, transform, and load data from a wide variety of data sources including but not limited to CSV, Excel, email attachments, SmartSheet, and more.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with business clients, technical teams, and operations groups to address business requirements and deliver against high operational standards of system availability and reliability.

  • Software Enhancement: Build and enhance software to extend system, application, or tool functionality to improve business processes and meet end-user needs while working within the overall system architecture.

  • Problem Resolution: Analyze and resolve operational issues, perform detailed root cause analysis, and propose recommendations for improvements.

  • Documentation: Document data engineering processes, workflows, and best practices to ensure data sharing and maintain a robust knowledge base.

Essential Qualifications


  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related discipline.

  • Leadership Experience: Experience providing oversight for data engineering projects with demonstrated ability to lead technical teams.

  • Database Expertise: Proven experience with building, developing, maintaining, and enhancing scalable database systems including data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines alongside reporting solutions.

  • Cloud Platform Proficiency: Extensive AWS experience with hands-on expertise in AWS Glue, AuroraDB (MySQL) - RDS, Amazon WorkMail, Amazon SES, S3, Lambda, Redshift, SQS, IAM (Users, Groups, Roles, and Permissions), VPC, and infrastructure configuration along with related components.

  • Data Structures: Experience working with modern data structures and Lambda architecture models.

  • SQL Skills: Strong proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL queries for data manipulation and analysis.

  • Open Source Technologies: Knowledge and experience with Open Source Data Technologies including Hadoop, Hive, HBase, Pig, Flash, and similar frameworks.

  • Programming Experience: Two or more years of development experience in Python, Ruby, Scala, or other platform-related big data technologies.

  • Development Best Practices: Knowledge of professional programming practices and best practices for the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.

  • Reporting Systems: Experience building Reporting systems such as QuickSight, PowerBI, or other business intelligence tools.

  • Business Analysis: Knowledge and experience building data warehouse reporting systems for Business Analysis using various technologies.

  • UI/UX for Data Systems: Experience with responsive design and UI development for data entry systems (writeback reporting systems).

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with SmartSheet, Asana, HoneyCode, or PowerApps for data management and workflow automation.

  • JavaScript and/or React JS knowledge and hands-on experience for building interactive data interfaces.

  • Industry experience as a Data Engineer or related specialty (e.g., Programmer, Business Intelligence Specialist, Data Scientist) with a history of controlling, processing, and extracting value from large datasets.

  • Experience building data products incrementally and integrating and managing datasets from diverse sources.

  • Query execution tuning skills using Unix profiling tools and SQL optimization techniques.

  • Experience leading large-scale data warehousing and analysis projects, including using AWS technologies such as Redshift, S3, EC2, Data Pipeline, and other big data technologies.

  • Experience with non-relational databases/data stores including object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, and column-family databases.
