As a Distributed Systems Engineer at arenaflex, you'll have the opportunity to work on some of the most challenging and rewarding technical problems in the entertainment industry. We offer multiple team placements depending on your expertise and interests:

Database Access Platform Team

The Database Access Platform team builds and operates a flexible query gateway that facilitates data abstractions to work at sub-millisecond latencies while allowing arenaflex microservices to more efficiently store, consume, and manage their data. This team holds significant responsibility in enabling arenaflex microservices to meet their ever-growing and evolving data needs.

This team is passionate about distributed data systems technology. We are active in the open source community and believe in owning what we build. We are a small team responsible for business-critical systems and are committed to a culture of feedback and engineering excellence.

Data Platform Engineering Team

The Data Platform Engineering team acts as a platform for our internal data platforms. Our shared infrastructure and tooling enable arenaflex to quickly advance on providing cutting-edge data and analytics systems to the rest of the organization without building custom-tailored solutions for each new system. To do this, we create high-impact infrastructure, control, and orchestration systems that are calibrated for the needs of running our data systems at scale. Many of our tools and systems are written in Python, making this a great team if you enjoy working in various programming languages.

Data Flow and Processing Team

This team offers a self-service batch processing pipeline product to enable varied client personas across arenaflex to meet their low-latency data flow and processing requirements. They enable reflection across complex streaming systems like Kafka and Flink, offer a pattern-driven processing experience, and invest in operational automation, reliability, and tools for predictable data quality.

Big Data Compute Team

This team is responsible for providing the cloud-native platform for distributed data processing at arenaflex. This team is key to batch data processing in the Data Platform. They offer support for Spark, to ETL data into the petabyte-scale data warehouse and access that data using Spark and Presto/TrinoDB. They also provide sub-second latency for a specific class of queries using Druid. We are looking for exceptional talent with experience in Spark, Presto/Trino, Druid, Iceberg, and distributed database systems overall.

Jobs in this group involve handling very interesting and challenging problems of working with data at scale, building features and performance enhancements, and working closely with open source communities to shape initiatives and make contributions.

Big Data Orchestration Team

This team offers the platform for designing, organizing, and executing big data jobs and workflows in a self-serve manner. These platforms include core services that have all ETL and ML jobs running on Big Data Systems at arenaflex. These fully distributed systems are constantly evolving for arenaflex scale with cutting-edge technology. We are moving towards event-driven and intelligent orchestration which would require minimal client input/intervention.

What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications

Experience: 2+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems features or applications.

API Development: Proficient in the design and development of RESTful web services.

Distributed Systems: Experienced in building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems.

Programming: Proficient in Java or other object-oriented programming languages with strong understanding of software design principles.

Concurrency: Comfortable with multithreading and concurrent programming challenges.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure.

Knowledge of big data technologies including Spark, Kafka, Flink, or similar frameworks.

Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.

Familiarity with database systems, both SQL and NoSQL.

Understanding of data engineering principles and ETL processes.

Experience in the entertainment or streaming industry is a plus but not required.

Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
