El Paso County is seeking a motivated engineer to join their Capital Projects team, contributing to the planning, design, and management of critical infrastructure projects. The role involves delivering high-quality capital improvements while ensuring compliance with civil engineering standards and collaborating with various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, designing, and construction oversight for capital improvement projects
- Ensure compliance with engineering principles and County criteria while supporting project scope, schedule, and budget tracking
- Perform plan reviews, quantity calculations, cost estimates, schedule evaluations, and feasibility analyses for assigned projects
- Coordinate with County departments, consultants, developers, contractors, utility providers, and external agencies to ensure successful project delivery and alignment with the County’s long-term infrastructure goals
- Support construction activities by monitoring compliance with plans, specifications, and standards
- Assist with issue resolution and project closeout, including formal project acceptance
- Review and process environmental documents to meet National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) and state requirements
- Represent the County at meetings, public hearings, and presentations
- Respond to questions and communicate technical information clearly to a variety of audiences
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field
- Four years of professional engineering experience; two years of the required experience must be in civil engineering
- Two years of leadership or project management experience
- Six years of progressive civil engineering experience, with three years of leadership experience of professional staff
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
- Engineer Intern Certification required, or equivalent combination of experience and education as approved by Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) for Professional Engineer (PE) Licensing Requirements
- Acceptable equivalence must be demonstrated by documented allowance from DORA to qualify for PE exam
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
- Professional Engineer's (PE) License; possession of Colorado PE within six months after employment
- Must pass conditional post offer background investigation, motor vehicle record check, and drug screen
- Experience with engineering-related software/programs, such as computer-aided design (CAD), geographic information systems (GIS), and MS Project
