Position Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to design, develop, and maintain our enterprise data platforms and analytics infrastructure. This role is critical to our data strategy, as you will be responsible for building scalable data pipelines, developing data products, and enabling real-time analytics that drive business insights across the organization.
As a Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will work with a diverse team of data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality data solutions that support our AI/ML initiatives, customer analytics, and operational reporting. You will leverage your deep expertise in distributed computing, cloud platforms, and modern data engineering practices to build fault-tolerant systems that can handle massive volumes of data with exceptional performance and reliability.
This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from anywhere in the United States while contributing to meaningful projects that impact our entire organization.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Data Pipeline Development: Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines that enable continuous data processing for exploration, preparation, and real-time enterprise analytics. You will work with both batch and streaming data processing frameworks to ensure data availability and quality.
- Data Architecture Design: Demonstrate deep knowledge of data engineering principles, including non-interactive (batch, distributed) and real-time highly available data systems. Architect scalable solutions that meet current and future business requirements.
- Data Product Development: Build and optimize data products that serve multiple stakeholders, including customer persona development, data science initiatives, AI/ML model training, and data visualization platforms.
- Semantic Data Modeling: Apply semantic data concepts to ensure data consistency, accuracy, and accessibility across the organization. Develop models that enable self-service analytics and empower business users.
- System Reliability: Create fault-tolerant, self-healing, adaptive, and highly accurate data computational pipelines that minimize downtime and ensure data integrity. Implement monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively identify and resolve issues.
- Technical Leadership: Lead implementation sessions and guide cross-functional teams through complex data engineering projects. Provide mentorship to junior team members and contribute to best practices and standards.
- Documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for all assigned systems and projects, ensuring knowledge transfer and enabling team collaboration.
- Problem Resolution: Perform root cause analysis to identify permanent resolutions to software or business process issues. Debug complex data quality issues and implement preventive measures.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related technical discipline. Equivalent work experience will also be considered.
Technical Skills (Required)
- Strong professional experience with Apache Spark (PySpark) using Jupyter Notebooks, Colab, or Databricks environments
- Hands-on experience with data pipeline development and ingest patterns in Microsoft Azure
- Proficiency with orchestration tools such as Azure Data Factory (ADF) or Apache Airflow
- Advanced SQL skills with the ability to write complex queries, optimize performance, and design efficient schemas
- Experience with denormalized data modeling for large-scale data systems
Professional Experience
- 7-10 years of experience architecting and designing big-scale, high-performance distributed systems
- 7-10 years of experience with SQL platforms, including query optimization and performance tuning
- 3+ years of experience with NoSQL platforms (such as MongoDB, Cassandra, DynamoDB)
- 3+ years of experience with Apache Spark for large-scale data processing
- 3+ years of experience implementing data platforms on Azure or AWS cloud environments
- 2+ years of experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Exposure to Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) principles
