- Description:
- Supervise second-shift Materials Characterization lab technicians and specialists.
- Oversee daily operations for mechanical testing, machine shop, and metallography teams to maintain workflow, safety, and quality standards.
- Manage lab scheduling, resource allocation, and equipment maintenance to support R&D and production deadlines.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to technicians and specialists, resolve conflicts, and help build a strong team culture.
- Manage second-shift performance and ensure accurate timekeeping.
- Collaborate and communicate with Engineering, M&P Engineering, and Manufacturing teams.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including process optimization, training programs, and technology upgrades within the Materials Characterization lab.
- Requirements:
- Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in a Supervisor, Lead, or equivalent role.
- 6+ years of experience in aerospace or a similar industry.
- Experience in a materials testing or metallurgical lab environment, including material characterization methods and sample preparation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead diverse technical teams and collaborate cross-functionally.
- Solid understanding of industry standards such as ASTM and ISO, and quality systems focused on data integrity and lab compliance.
- Strong hands-on problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Familiarity with lab accreditation standards such as ISO or NADCAP is preferred.
- Proficiency interpreting engineering drawings and material specifications, including ASTM and ASME standards, is preferred.
- Experience in production scheduling or planning is preferred.
- Experience operating mechanical testing, metallography, machining, or thermal/chemistry analysis equipment is preferred.
