SolidWorks Expert: File Conversion (.SLDPRT to .STEP) + Design for Manufacturing (DFM) Consulting
Posted 2026-05-06The Context:
We have an existing SolidWorks design file that was created using an unknown version (likely Student or Cloud-based) that is preventing our manufacturer from making necessary edits and converting to STEP. Our molder requires a clean export to move forward with the tooling.
Phase 1: Immediate Technical Fix (Urgent)
Open our existing SolidWorks file.
Export/Save-As a high-quality .STP or .STEP file.
Crucial: Ensure the file is "cleaned" and compatible for a professional molding environment (no educational watermarks or feature-tree errors).
Phase 2: Ongoing Consulting (The "Sanity Check")
Once the file is converted, we are looking for a partner to act as our internal expert as we move into production. We are leaning on the molder for primary design changes, but we need you to:
DFM Review: Analyze the molder’s suggested changes to ensure the part will mold well (checking for draft angles, wall thickness, sink, etc.).
Quality & Feel Assessment: Provide an opinion on whether the molder’s changes will meaningfully impact the "hand-feel" or aesthetic compared to our current 3D-printed prototypes.
Materials & Finishing Advice: Offer expert recommendations on the best plastic resins and surface finishes (SPI finishes) for our specific application.
Requirements:
Must have a Professional or Premium version of SolidWorks that is capable of converting our current file.
Strong background in Injection Molding and DFM.
Ability to translate technical manufacturing feedback into plain English for a non-technical founder.
To Apply:
Please confirm you have a full professional license of SolidWorks that is capable of performing conversion and that you can perform the file conversion today.
