We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Engineer - Data Analytics & Data Science to lead our data investigation and reporting initiatives. Position Overview

The Chief Specialist in Data Examination at arenaflex holds a pivotal influential position, directing the essential vision, strategy, and engineering of the organization's data investigation and reporting landscape. In this capacity, this role will be instrumental in shaping the long-term technical strategy, embracing innovation, and providing hands-on experience as a technical leader for the team; driving analysis for emerging industry trends and providing ongoing guidance to bring that to execution.

This position demands a dynamic approach, blending direct technical leadership, mentorship, and active participation in risk and growth management. Collaboration with the Data Investigation leadership team is essential, fostering a hands-on and collective effort towards achieving organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Technical Direction

• Leads and coaches a team of specialists, provides technical guidance, sharing best practices, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and development.


• Adheres to and drives modern software engineering practices through design reviews.


• Manages system design through well-defined interfaces across different components, code reviews, using data and telemetry to inform decisions.


• Develops "world-class" engineering for our services by ensuring that the services and the components are well-defined and modularized, secure, reliable, diagnosable, easily monitored, and reusable.


• Further develops test coverage for services; organizes and implements integration tests; and resolves trouble spots.


• Ensures testability, compactness and monitoring, reliability, and feasibility; and understands when code is fit to be shared and deployed.


• Focuses on business needs through a data-driven approach.


• Investigates and improves automation, reliability, and monitoring for distributed products.

Strategic Data Analytics Leadership

• Sets the strategic vision for data analysis and reporting, aligning with organizational goals. Provides leadership in directing the overall direction of data analysis technical initiatives.


• Plans, develops, and optimizes complex data models and reporting structures.


• Drives the design and implementation of scalable and efficient data analysis and reporting frameworks.


• Ensures the integrity, security, and performance of data products and reporting solutions by partnering with platforms, data architecture, and governance teams.


• Defines and implements the long-term technical strategy for data analysis, incorporating emerging technologies and industry trends.


• Stays up-to-date with emerging technologies and evaluates their applicability to the organization.


• Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, business analysts, data engineers, platform engineers, and IT professionals, to develop comprehensive data solutions.


• Fosters a collaborative environment that encourages knowledge sharing and skill development. Leads technical leadership communities, lunch and learn sessions for the engineering community across the organization.

Data Quality & Governance

• Establishes and maintains data quality standards and best practices. Implements processes for data validation, cleansing, and accuracy.


• Evaluates and selects appropriate data analysis and reporting tools to meet business needs. Leads requirement interviews and partners closely with platforms and infrastructure teams during the evaluation and implementation of these tools.


• Partners with engineering and development teams to create and maintain documentation for data analysis processes, reporting structures, and data models.


• Monitors the performance of data analysis and reporting systems; and provides technical leadership to drive security and scalability of data products and reporting solutions.


• Implements measures to optimize performance and troubleshoot issues.

Strategic Insights & Technology Evolution

• Provides strategic insights and recommendations based on data analysis to support decision-making at the organizational level.


• Recommends infrastructure upgrades to support business growth and evolving technology requirements.


• Leverages Azure services, such as Azure SQL DW (Synapse), ADLS, Azure Event Hub, Cosmos DB, Databricks, Delta-Lake to enhance and accelerate delivery of our data products and services.


• Implements big data and NoSQL solutions by developing scalable data processing platforms to drive high-value insights to the organization.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Demonstrated history with at least 15+ years of hands-on experience in data analysis and reporting roles.


• 5+ years of experience in leadership or senior roles; demonstrating the ability to effectively guide and lead a team.


• 5+ years of experience working with Cloud technologies, such as ADLS, Azure Databricks, Spark, Azure Synapse, Cosmos DB, DBT, and other big data technologies.


• Demonstrated advanced proficiency in data analysis tools, languages, ML, and frameworks (e.g., Kafka, PowerBI, SQL, Python, R).


• Proficiency in data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Power BI or similar tools to effectively communicate insights.


• Demonstrated ability to work with cloud platforms, such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, to architect and implement scalable and efficient data analysis solutions.


• In-depth understanding and practical application of Lakehouse architecture principles, combining the best of data lakes and data warehouses for powerful and flexible data management.


• Advanced SQL skills. Strong understanding of relational databases and business data capacity to write complex SQL queries against various data sources.


• Experience handling high-volume and high-speed data streams, and designing systems that can handle the demands of real-time or near-real-time analysis.


• Experience shaping the strategic vision for data analysis and reporting initiatives within an organization.


• Successful management of data analysis projects, including planning, execution, and delivery.


• Demonstrated ability to drive innovation, adapt to emerging technologies, and implement industry best practices.


• Demonstrated ability to take ownership and responsibility of critical issues and close them to resolution.


• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Data Science or related technical discipline.


• Relevant industry certifications are a plus.


• Experience in retail, manufacturing, e-commerce, supply chain.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $160,000 - $230,000 annually

Additional Compensation: Eligible for annual bonuses and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs)
