Legal Counsel - Platform Liability

A growing legal team is seeking a Legal Counsel specializing in Platform Liability & Enforcement to support the development and supervision of legal takedown practices and content policies. This role involves providing legal guidance on platform liability frameworks and content safe harbor laws, resolving claims related to content policies, and building scalable processes to manage legal takedown requests.
Responsibilities
Advise on global compliance with platform liability frameworks and content safe harbor laws such as the Digital Services Act, DMCA, and Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act
Manage the legal takedown process across various content types and legal issues including intellectual property and speech-related offenses
Provide legal advice on platform liability, including issue-spotting and strategizing solutions for new products
Collaborate with internal and external counsel and government affairs experts to monitor evolving legal requirements across operational territories
Counsel teams responsible for building and implementing content policies, including Trust & Safety and Content Protection teams
Support proactive enforcement efforts addressing potential abuse of the platform
Provide legal support for litigation and press inquiries related to content takedown issues
Work with operations teams to develop efficient, scalable practices for handling legal takedown requests
Perform rotational duties as business needs require
Requirements
Law degree or equivalent qualification
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a law firm and/or in-house legal department
Deep understanding of intermediary liability frameworks, preferably with litigation experience involving intermediary liability
Proven expertise in copyright law and other content-related legal matters
Ability to assess and advise on a broad range of legal standards, including new or emerging ones
Experience collaborating with global stakeholders
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain legal concepts to non-lawyers
Problem-solving mindset with the ability to remain calm under pressure
Collaborative approach to developing practical, implementable legal and operational solutions
Self-motivated and proactive in identifying and completing necessary work
Effective multitasking and prioritization skills
Willingness to engage deeply with complex projects
Team player comfortable working with both legal and non-legal colleagues
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: $170,366 to $243,380 (United States base range)
