We are currently seeking a talented and motivated Lead DevOps Engineer to join our Infrastructure Solutions Group on a part-time, remote basis. This is an exceptional opportunity to advance your career while working flexibly with one of the industry's most respected technology companies.
Position Overview
As a Lead DevOps Engineer at arenaflex, you will play a pivotal role in our TechOps organization, which serves as the backbone of our IaaS/PaaS/SaaS delivery for ISG Development teams. You will be responsible for accelerating innovation velocity by ensuring all critical systems operate seamlessly around the clock while driving enterprise-wide transformation initiatives to modernize Engineering Operations across multiple business lines.
This position offers the unique opportunity to work at the cutting edge of cloud-native technologies, specifically focusing on Kubernetes as a Service offerings, OpenShift, VMware Tanzu, and Rancher platforms. You will serve as the technical authority for internal clients, providing expert guidance on on-demand Kubernetes cluster provisioning and management in our on-premises cloud environment.
Key Responsibilities
As the Lead DevOps Engineer, you will be entrusted with the following core responsibilities:
- Infrastructure Sustainability: Oversee the sustainment and maintenance of our core K8s infrastructure platforms, including OpenShift, Rancher, and VMware Tanzu, ensuring adherence to industry best practices and organizational standards in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
- Technical Leadership: Serve as the primary technical lead for "Kubernetes as a Service" offerings, presenting solutions to internal stakeholders and assisting with requirements for on-demand K8s cluster provisioning across on-premises cloud environments (OpenShift, VMware Tanzu, and Rancher) with multiple stages of deployment.
- GitOps Implementation: Lead the implementation of GitOps principles across the organization, encompassing enterprise-wide cluster provisioning, automation, and Day 2 lifecycle management using Kubernetes-native CI/CD tools such as ArgoCD and Jenkins.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure robust security policies are implemented and enforced across all infrastructure work, including vulnerability management, patch management, and compliance monitoring. Maintain comprehensive documentation of project requirements, statements of work, and service descriptions.
- Disaster Recovery: Guarantee backup and recovery capabilities for critical assets, including the development and maintenance of comprehensive Disaster Recovery Plans to ensure business continuity.
- Linux System Administration: Perform Linux system administration on physical and virtual servers, including installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware, software, and applications.
- Troubleshooting & Resolution: Investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex issues with Kubernetes objects including deployments, pods, namespaces, replica sets, daemon sets, schedulers, and other cluster components.
- Automation & Scripting: Develop scripts and automation workflows to streamline operational processes, reduce manual intervention, and improve overall system efficiency.
Essential Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and experience:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
- Industry Knowledge: Demonstrated expertise in cloud-native architectures, service-based design, container-based solution development, deployment, and operations across multiple environments and use cases.
- Platform Expertise: Mastery of OpenShift, VMware Tanzu Kubernetes Grid Services, and Rancher with a strong foundational background in VMware virtualization, networking/SAN, security, and containerization technologies.
- Advanced Platform Knowledge: Working knowledge of arenaflex Central (ACM), arenaflex Container Security (ACS), Tanzu Application Services, and Rancher, combined with a robust background in VMware virtualization, networking, storage area networks, security, and containerization technologies.
- Global Scale Experience: Proven experience designing, developing, and deploying globally scaled platforms for software-defined datacenters, including expertise with container technologies (Docker, containerd, CRI-O, Kubernetes, NSX-T, Calico, OVN), Argo/Argoevents, DevOps practices, and CI/CD tools.
- CI/CD Proficiency: Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, including continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) for container workloads using Jenkins or ArgoCD.
- Programming & Scripting: Strong programming/scripting skills with Yaml, Python, and Shell scripting. Experience with configuration management and deployment tools, particularly the Ansible automation platform and AWX.
- Monitoring & Load Balancing: Comprehensive understanding of infrastructure, network, and application monitoring. Hands-on experience with ingress controllers including NGINX/Haproxy software load balancers and application load balancer ingress controllers.
- Backup Solutions: Work experience with PPDM backup tools, Velero, and MinIO for data protection and recovery scenarios.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are considered advantageous and will enhance your candidacy:
- Red Hat OpenShift certifications demonstrating platform expertise
- Kubernetes certifications including Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), Certified Kubernetes Developer (CKD), or Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKS)
- Experience utilizing ServiceNow for IT service management
- Proficiency with Jira for project tracking and issue management
- Familiarity with Infoblox for IP address management and DNS services
- Experience with enterprise-grade monitoring solutions such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog
- Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code practices using Terraform or Pulumi

Compensation & Benefits
We offer a competitive compensation package designed to recognize your skills and experience. The hourly rate for this position is $26.00 per hour with a work schedule of 8 hours per day in a part-time capacity.
