About the Team
The Promotion Stages group at arenaflex is responsible for building and operating the technology that supports our industry-leading, sophisticated global advertising business. Working across arenaflex's streaming brands and linear stations, this team's scope is extensive—ranging from core infrastructure development that drives our proprietary ad server to reimagining viewer-first advertising experiences and solutions.
Our honor-winning, in-house built innovations form the foundation of arenaflex's advertising business and are a critical component of the organization's streaming future. As a Senior Data Engineer on this team, you'll contribute to projects that directly impact how advertising works in the streaming era.
What You'll Do
As a Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex, you'll play a pivotal role in the organization's success by collaborating with business, analytics, and infrastructure teams to design and build data pipelines that facilitate forecasting of subscriber movements and metrics. Working cross-functionally, you'll identify internal and external data sources, design table structures, define ETL strategies, and implement automated Data Quality checks.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical partners to understand data and reporting requirements, translating business needs into technical specifications
- Work with engineering teams to gather required data from internal and external systems, ensuring data integrity and accessibility
- Design table structures and define ETL pipelines to build performant data solutions that are reliable and scalable in a rapidly evolving data ecosystem
- Develop and implement Data Quality checks to maintain data accuracy, consistency, and reliability across all pipelines
- Create and maintain ETL schedules using ETL and orchestration tools such as Airflow
- Execute database optimizations using tools like dbt (data build tool)
- Perform ad-hoc analysis as business needs arise, providing actionable insights to stakeholders
- Conduct SQL and ETL tuning to optimize performance and ensure efficient data processing
Required Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you'll need a combination of technical expertise, analytical thinking, and collaborative skills:
- 2+ years of relevant data engineering experience with a proven track record of building and maintaining data pipelines
- Strong understanding of data modeling principles including dimensional modeling and data normalization standards
- Excellent SQL skills with the ability to write complex queries and lead advanced performance tuning
- Analytical mindset with the ability to think conceptually, analyze, and interpret market and customer information
- Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—with experience presenting technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Excellent applied and analytical thinking skills with a problem-solving orientation
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment with changing priorities
- Familiarity with Agile Scrum principles and functions
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will help you stand out:
- 2+ years of work experience implementing and covering business key performance indicators in data warehousing environments
- 2+ years of experience using analytical SQL, working with traditional relational databases and/or distributed systems such as Snowflake or Redshift
- 2+ years of experience with programming languages such as Python or PySpark
- 2+ years of experience with data orchestration/ETL tools such as Airflow or NiFi
- Experience with Snowflake, Databricks/EMR/Spark, or Airflow
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
