Position Overview
We are seeking a talented and motivated Real-World Evidence Data Scientist to join our Evidence Generation team at arenaflex. In this critical role, you will be responsible for producing high-quality Real-World Evidence (RWE) through advanced research and innovative methodologies in the clinical trials space. You will serve as a vital member of our Scientific Projects team, working to influence decision-making both internally and externally through the use of creative data science and technology.

Key Responsibilities
- Data Mining and Analysis: Mine raw data sets from in-house resources or licensed platforms to deliver normalized, analysis-ready patient cohorts. Analyze and interpret results, and help shape analysis strategy to address critical business questions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with members of the arenaflex Clinical Trial team to deliver meaningful insights from real-world, clinical, and other data sources to support biopharmaceutical RWE and clinical trial requests. Potential projects include analysis of unmet needs, safety and efficacy in specific disease states, treatment patterns and healthcare burden, and cost-effectiveness modeling.
- Data Management: Clean, transform, and store data into an integrated data lake for future analysis and broader team utilization. Ensure data integrity, consistency, and accessibility across the organization.
- Statistical Analysis: Perform data mining and statistical analysis to analyze RWE/Real-World Data (RWD) to discover new insights regarding patient populations and treatment outcomes. Apply advanced statistical techniques to uncover patterns, trends, and correlations.
- Capability Development: Support the development of real-world data, analytics, and platform capabilities. Apply advanced analytics and tools to answer scientific questions from biopharmaceutical companies.
- Research Design: Collaborate on the design and execution of outcomes research studies. Contribute to study protocols, analysis plans, and methodological approaches.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure high-quality, rigorous, and readily interpretable outputs from RWE reviews and investigations. Maintain rigorous standards for accuracy, reproducibility, and scientific integrity.
- Reporting and Visualization: Build dashboards, analyses, and reports for internal and external use. Communicate complex findings clearly and effectively to diverse stakeholders.
- Vendor Assessment: Conduct due diligence on new real-world data providers and vendors. Drive RWD quality assessments to inform project decisions and ensure data reliability.
Essential Qualifications
- Statistical Expertise: Experience in designing and executing robust and reproducible statistical analyses in the context of epidemiology and observational research with healthcare data. Strong foundation in study design, statistical methodology, and data analysis.
- Statistical Techniques: Knowledge of common statistical testing techniques including generalized linear models, clustering and classification, decision trees, unsupervised learning, time series analysis, and survival analysis. Proficiency in applying these methods to real-world healthcare datasets.
- Large Data Handling: Experience handling large data from various data sources. Ability to work with complex, high-dimensional datasets and extract meaningful insights.
- Data Privacy: Experience handling protected patient health information (PHI) with strict adherence to privacy regulations and security protocols. Familiarity with HIPAA compliance and data governance best practices.
- BI Tools Proficiency: Knowledge of at least one of the following: Tableau, Power BI, Alteryx, Spotfire, or other business intelligence and visualization tools. Ability to create compelling data visualizations and dashboards.
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in statistics, biostatistics, data science, computer science, mathematics, or a related field. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree: PhD or Master's degree in statistics/biostatistics, computer science, mathematics, systems engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related field. Advanced training in statistical methods and healthcare analytics.
- Healthcare Data Expertise: Proficiency in EMR/Health IT systems, disease registries, and insurance claims databases. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) data structures and healthcare data ecosystems.
- Clinical Data Standards: Expertise in clinical data standards, clinical terminologies, and controlled vocabularies used in healthcare data and ontologies (ICD-9/10, Read Code, SNOMED CT, etc.). Understanding of medical coding systems and data standardization.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Experience in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and/or regulatory compliance guidelines for real-world evidence studies or clinical trials (e.g., ISO standards, MDD/MDR, CFR). Understanding of FDA and EMA regulatory requirements for evidence generation.
- Alternative Data Sources: Experience working with alternative data sources and alternative methods for clinical data collection, especially those enabled by technology platforms and/or solutions. Interest in digital health data, wearable devices, and patient-generated health data.
- Advanced Methods: Experience with experimental design, Bayesian modeling, sequential data, and computational statistics. Knowledge of machine learning methods and ability to apply them to healthcare problems.
- Continuous Learning: Understanding of statistics and machine learning methods, with the ability to pursue self-learning of both technical and non-technical skills. Commitment to staying current with emerging trends and best practices in healthcare analytics.
