Position Overview

As a Media Engineer II at arenaflex, you'll play a pivotal role in maintaining and advancing our broadcast and production infrastructure. You'll be the backbone of our operations during night hours, ensuring that all systems function optimally while our daytime teams rest. This position offers an exciting blend of hands-on technical work, problem-solving, and innovation in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
What You'll Do
Media Engineers at arenaflex carry a clear mandate: to transform the capability and flexibility of how we acquire, produce, and distribute content globally—all while ensuring the highest levels of quality, efficiency, and adaptability. You'll find yourself at the intersection of hardware and software-based technology, leveraging your comprehensive theoretical and practical understanding of the technology that drives the creation, monetization, and distribution of all forms of consumer-facing video and audio content.
Key Responsibilities:
- System Support & Troubleshooting: Respond to and resolve issues that impact production, broadcast, and content distribution across multiple arenaflex networks, including system outages, breakdowns, and related technical problems. Conduct diagnostic testing, repair, and replacement activities necessary to resolve common, specialized, and complex issues.
- System Monitoring: Utilize system health and performance monitoring software and platforms. Investigate and participate in fixing system issues and failures, participate in support of systems, install software patches, updates, and more to resolve and avoid service issues. Analyze system issues as they relate to these services.
- Signal Analysis: Examine and troubleshoot online audio/video signals in traditional SDI and IP 2110 essence stream routing environments. Investigate and troubleshoot cloud platforms as required.
- Vendor Management: Manage third-party service providers by enforcing the agreed-upon scope of services within various agreed-to-support arrangements, including full-time, independent, partnership organizations, maintenance providers, contractors, and service providers.
- Team Leadership: Select, train, motivate, and evaluate technical staff; provide or direct staff training; work with employees to address deficiencies; implement disciplinary procedures when necessary.
- Resource Management: Determine and secure equipment, supplies, and materials for media technology systems within budget guidelines; obtain and maintain equipment and supplies.
- Strategic Planning: Develop long-range plans for future media technology needs, including capital improvements, to enhance production and distribution capabilities.
- Policy Development: Assist in the development and execution of policies and procedures regarding technology facilities with a focus on increasing the integration of all assets to meet business, marketing, and entertainment goals.
- Operational Support: Provide operational support of all types related to operating, maintaining, and programming the audio and video production/distribution systems across the enterprise and other associated properties.
- System Upgrades: Perform upgrades to system hardware and software workflows under the supervision of a more experienced engineer or manager.
- Preventive Maintenance: Perform and schedule preventive maintenance on all broadcast systems and equipment, including distribution systems, switchers, consoles, playout servers, cameras, robotics, electromechanical equipment, automation systems, and radio facilities to ensure optimal transmission performance.
- Project Participation: Participate in complex engineering projects at the direction of more experienced engineers.
- Documentation: Review, maintain, and contribute to system/workflow documentation.
- Training & Development: Participate in training and development objectives. Conduct peer training and development sessions.
- Business Alignment: Perform other responsibilities as required to help achieve Business Objectives.
What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications:
- Experience: 3+ years of past and relevant experience in ensuring efficient sustainment, uptime, and overall security of the technical environments of live media production and distribution environments.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or comparable major, and/or equivalent work experience.
- Technical Expertise: Proven troubleshooting and supporting experience in one or more of the following:
- IP-based broadcast equipment including routers, switchers, audio consoles, signal processors, encoder/decoders, video scalers, playback systems, and more
- Studio technology including video walls, cameras, VR set technology, image processing systems, touch screens, lighting, and more
- File-based workflows like enterprise Media Asset Management systems (Cloud-based Cloud Compute or On-Premise Network-based) including storage, compute, encode, and distribution
- Production control systems, such as Imagine Communications or Grass Valley automation systems, Avid, Adobe, Viz, Dalet, Riedel communications, Lawo, Calrec, Evertz, Ross, and others
- Transmission systems like RF (Radio Frequency), Satellite Distribution, Fiber Distribution, and more
- Cloud Experience: Proven history for investigating and sustainment knowledge of AWS Infrastructure and other cloud-based technologies including S3/Ice storage and cloud compute (EC2) services.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to climb ladders, work on elevated structures and building rooftops, work aerial lift platforms, and possess a valid driver's license.
- Technical Drawing: Ability to create, read, and interpret AutoCAD and other technical drawing/documentation tools.
- IP-based broadcast equipment including routers, switchers, audio consoles, signal processors, encoder/decoders, video scalers, playback systems, and more
- Studio technology including video walls, cameras, VR set technology, image processing systems, touch screens, lighting, and more
- File-based workflows like enterprise Media Asset Management systems (Cloud-based Cloud Compute or On-Premise Network-based) including storage, compute, encode, and distribution
- Production control systems, such as Imagine Communications or Grass Valley automation systems, Avid, Adobe, Viz, Dalet, Riedel communications, Lawo, Calrec, Evertz, Ross, and others
- Transmission systems like RF (Radio Frequency), Satellite Distribution, Fiber Distribution, and more
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience in on-prem and cloud-based storage and compute infrastructure platforms and current technology offerings
- Knowledge and experience with SMPTE standards for broadcast television and video production/streaming environments
- Knowledge and experience in compression techniques such as MPEG2/4, HEVC, JPEG 2000, and JPEG XS
- Knowledge and experience in Evertz software control systems, including frame control through Vista Link or Magnum, EQX/EXE switches, and their monitoring software VLPRO, SDVN, VIP, VUE, MVP
- Knowledge and experience in Nielsen (NACAT), VANC equipment, Direct Acoustics, and other related systems
- Knowledge and experience in hosted receiver decoders IRDs, hub devices, edge devices, timing of video and audio systems, audio, and video media file formats are a plus
