Position Overview

As a Data Scientist at arenaflex, you will play a critical role in our Utilization Management (UM) division. Utilization Management is responsible for ensuring that patients receive the right care, at the right time, in the right setting, by the right providers. This function is fundamental to delivering high-quality, cost-effective healthcare solutions, and our UM Data Science team is at the forefront of this transformation.

You will leverage your expertise in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to build advanced analytics systems that optimize utilization management operations. Your work will directly contribute to improving provider and member experiences, reducing unnecessary costs, and ensuring that healthcare resources are used efficiently. Key Responsibilities

As a key member of our data science team, you will be responsible for the following:


  • Develop AI and Generative AI Solutions: Design and implement cutting-edge artificial intelligence and generative AI solutions to optimize Utilization Management processes within the healthcare ecosystem.

  • Predictive Modeling: Develop, validate, and execute algorithms and predictive models to analyze complex healthcare data, detect patterns, and recommend data-driven solutions for improving care delivery.

  • Data Exploration and Interpretation: Explore, examine, and interpret large volumes of structured and unstructured data from multiple sources to solve challenging business problems and uncover actionable insights.

  • Statistical Analysis: Apply advanced statistical methods and mathematical analyses to identify trends, evaluate outcomes, and support evidence-based decision-making across the organization.

  • Data Pipeline Development: Develop robust data systems and pipelines to collect, organize, standardize, and integrate data that generates meaningful insights and addresses reporting needs.

  • Data Visualization: Utilize advanced data visualization techniques to effectively communicate analytical results and guide strategic business decisions to stakeholders at all levels.

  • Data Integrity Management: Create and evaluate the data needs of assigned projects, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of data used for analysis and reporting.

  • Data Source Exploration: Continuously explore existing data sources and recommend additional resources that can improve analytical capabilities and drive continuous improvement.

  • Documentation: Document projects thoroughly, including business objectives, data collection and processing methodologies, targeted outcomes, and key performance metrics.

Required Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following requirements:


  • Minimum of 1+ years of relevant analytical experience in data science, analytics, or a related field.

  • Strong proficiency in programming using R or Python, with the ability to develop and deploy analytical models.

  • Experience with SAS or SQL for data manipulation, querying, and statistical analysis.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Economics, Physics, Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to effectively resolve challenges and roadblocks as they arise.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field (Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, etc.).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data and findings to diverse audiences effectively.

  • Demonstrated expertise in various areas of data modeling, machine learning algorithms, statistical analysis, data engineering, and data visualization.

  • Experience working with large datasets from multiple data sources, including structured and unstructured data.

  • Knowledge of and experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI technologies.

  • Experience in the healthcare industry, particularly in utilization management, claims analysis, or population health.

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and big data technologies.

Compensation and Benefits

arenaflex is proud to offer a competitive and comprehensive compensation package that recognizes your skills, experience, and contributions. The pay range for this position is $82,915.00 – $175,100.00 annually, depending on experience, education, geography, and other relevant factors. In addition to competitive base pay, this role is eligible for a performance bonus, commission, or short-term incentive program.
