What You'll Do: Key Responsibilities
As a Control Systems Engineer Manager at arenaflex, you'll be responsible for leading and directing work activities for the Control Systems Specialists and Leads within your assigned building, ensuring the achievement of goals and objectives for our North America Customer Fulfillment teams. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and strategic thinking.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Team Leadership: Direct and plan work activities for Control Systems Specialists and Promotes to achieve goals and objectives of North America Customer Fulfillment teams. You'll mentor, coach, and guide Control Systems Technicians (CST) and Control Systems Leads (CSL) within your assigned building.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Building Operations, Operations Engineering, FC Startup Group, Software Teams, Ops Teams, and Safety in supporting MHE system optimization and project execution. Partner with other building Operations management, equipment vendors, and parts suppliers to design and coordinate new technology installations.
- Technical Expertise: Understand, maintain, and troubleshoot material handling control systems, including PLC/PC controllers and industrial networks such as Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, motor control systems, servo drives, frequency drives, and electrical distribution systems.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor MHE metrics and partner with maintenance/operations for system performance issues, providing analysis across all operations. Perform, use, and provide analysis engineering System Assessments to assess material handling system performance.
- Escalation Support: Serve as first-level escalation support for Control Systems Specialists/Leads, during and after business hours, troubleshooting locally and remotely and fixing all hardware or controls software systems within the facility. Appropriately escalate downtime situations to vendors or headquarters for support to restore equipment operation.
- Continuous Improvement: Work with Failure Analysis and Incident Review processes and implement process improvements or retraining to avoid future incidents. Apply subject matter expertise in material handling and electronic systems to increase building utilization of systems.
- Technical Consultation: Act as the technical consultant for capital projects within the facility. Use building network support resources for guidance and assistance, and provide assistance to peers as needed.
- Communication: Communicate technical issues and project schedules with building leadership, operations, and the maintenance team. Explain production impacts clearly and effectively.
- Skill Assessment: Assist with skill assessments for Technical positions within building Operations maintenance teams.
- Flexible Coverage: Handle flexible responsibilities which may come from management or other projects. Participate in AE phone calls and guidance with AE central team to complete all duties required.
What We're Looking For: Essential Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you'll need:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Alternatively, a combination of education and 2+ years of arenaflex Blue Badge/FTE experience will be considered.
- Availability: Ability to work flexible schedules/shifts/areas, including weekends, evenings, and/or holidays. This role requires adaptability to support 24/7 operations.
- Technical Foundation: Strong understanding of industrial control systems, PLC programming, and automated equipment troubleshooting.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead others in a technical role and collaborate effectively with all levels of management.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex technical issues under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Points!)
While not required, the following experience would make you an even stronger candidate:
- Experience with electrical theory, Robotics, Controls components, and automated equipment
- Experience identifying, maintaining, troubleshooting, programming, and designing HMI and control network components
- Experience identifying, maintaining, troubleshooting, and modifying Motor Controls including motor starters, Variable Frequency Drives, DC drives, and standard electrical components
- Industrial electrical hands-on experience and troubleshooting, including 480V 3-phase, 110 VAC, and 24VDC systems
- Experience interpreting, modifying, and creating mechanical and electrical drawings
- Experience identifying, maintaining, and utilizing SCADA systems and KPIs
- Knowledge of programming such as RSLogix5000 Studio, FT View, and various controls software platforms
- Experience with Robotics work cells and their control systems
- Experience in Lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies
- Knowledge of conveyor systems, sortation technology, and package handling equipment
