Position Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and talented Entry-Level Product Data Scientist to join our growing Applied Product team at arenaflex. As an early member of our Data Science group, you will play a pivotal role in establishing our data-driven product development culture. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to kickstart their career in data science within a forward-thinking organization that is revolutionizing the AI industry.
In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to define our north-star metrics, design our initial A/B tests, and create source-of-truth dashboards that the entire organization will use to answer critical product questions. You will be an integral member of the product development team building our first-party offerings, working alongside talented product managers, engineers, and researchers.
This position is based at our San Francisco headquarters, though we offer relocation assistance to new employees joining us from across the country. We are proud to foster a collaborative, innovative, and supportive work environment where your ideas truly matter.
What You'll Do
As a Product Data Scientist at arenaflex, you will be embedded with the product development team as a trusted partner, uncovering better ways to improve our products and drive growth. Your work will be instrumental in shaping the direction of our AI-powered offerings. Here's what you can expect to do in this role:
- Partner with Product Teams: Work closely with product managers, engineers, and designers to identify opportunities for product improvement and innovation. You'll serve as the go-to data expert for answering complex product questions and providing actionable insights.
- Design and Analyze Experiments: Define and execute A/B tests that help answer critical questions about the impact of model changes and user experience modifications to our products. You'll design test parameters, analyze results, and provide clear recommendations based on statistical evidence.
- Establish Metrics Framework: Lead the definition, tracking, and operationalization of feature-level, product-level, and organization-level metrics. You'll create the foundation for how we measure success across all our products.
- Build Dashboards and Reports: Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and other self-serve tools that enable team members across the company to answer product-related questions independently. You'll make data accessible and understandable to everyone.
- Drive Data-Driven Culture: Be a champion for data-informed decision making throughout the organization. You'll help colleagues understand how to leverage data effectively and advocate for evidence-based approaches to product development.
- Collaborate on Product Strategy: Provide strategic input on product roadmap and feature prioritization based on quantitative analysis and market insights.
What We're Looking For
Essential Qualifications
To thrive in this role, you should have:
- A Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related discipline. We're open to candidates from diverse academic backgrounds who demonstrate strong analytical skills.
- 4+ years of experience in a quantitative role exploring highly uncertain environments, ideally as a founding data scientist or product analyst at a hyper-growth product company or research organization. However, we also welcome candidates with equivalent experience from other fast-paced environments.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python for data analysis, manipulation, and visualization. You should be comfortable writing complex queries and building analytical pipelines.
- Demonstrated experience designing, proposing, and running rigorous experiments with clear insights and product recommendations. You should understand experimental design principles and know how to interpret results meaningfully.
- Experience defining, implementing, and operationalizing new feature and product-level metrics from scratch. You should be able to create measurement frameworks that align with business objectives.
- Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, including product managers, engineers, and executive leadership. You should be able to tell compelling stories with data.
- A deep understanding that goes beyond the paradigm of statistical significance testing. We need someone who can think critically about what the data actually means for our products and users.
