The Role: Data Engineer, Data Platform

As a Data Engineer on our Data Engineering Platform team, you'll be instrumental in building and maintaining the foundational data infrastructure that powers analytics and decision-making across the entire organization. You'll construct highly automated, low-latency core datasets that enable data architects and end users to work with analytical data at scale efficiently.

This position offers an exceptional opportunity to work on complex technical challenges as we scale our interfaces, algorithms, and infrastructure. You'll have the chance to work with modern data technologies and contribute to systems that process massive volumes of data in real-time. Your work will directly impact our ability to deliver insights quickly and accurately to stakeholders throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and Develop Core Data Models: Drive improvements that make analytics accessible by creating and modifying core data models and storage structures. You'll work closely with stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into efficient, scalable data solutions.
• Build Real-Time Data Pipelines: Create analytical data and metrics that become usable within seconds of real-world events occurring. You'll build streaming processes for derived events and aggregated data, ensuring our systems provide up-to-the-minute insights.
• Data Lakehouse Architecture: Handle model construction, storage, and access of data at exceptionally high volumes for our data lakehouse. You'll optimize data storage solutions that balance performance, cost, and scalability.
• Enhance Developer Productivity: Improve developer efficiency and self-serve capabilities by contributing components to our stream data processing systems. You'll build tools and frameworks that make it easier for other engineers to work with data effectively.
• Infrastructure as Code: Own data engineering's infrastructure as code for provisioning services that enable our engineers to deploy mature infrastructure within hours rather than weeks.
• Scalable System Design: Build high-performance processes that allow our systems to scale seamlessly as our data volumes grow. You'll architect solutions that can handle increased load without degradation in performance.
• Mentorship and Leadership: Coach other back-end engineers on the team and help them grow their technical skills. You'll share knowledge, provide guidance, and support the professional development of your colleagues.
• AWS Distributed Systems: Build and contribute to AWS high-scale distributed systems on the backend. You'll work with cloud-native technologies to create resilient, fault-tolerant data infrastructure.

What We're Looking For

Requirements:

• Strong proficiency in Python, Scala, or Java programming languages
• Experience with database product design and writing complex relational queries
• Proven experience designing and deploying APIs and services
• Solid understanding of system design and building tools within the data ecosystem
• Hands-on experience handling applications that work with data from data lakes
• Experience building internal administration sites or portals
• Strong knowledge of AWS (or equivalent expertise in Azure or GCE with ability to quickly learn AWS)
• Ability to efficiently evaluate open source or third-party solutions to accomplish objectives, or devise quick and elegant solutions independently

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with streaming data processing frameworks such as Apache Kafka, Apache Flink, or similar technologies
• Knowledge of data lakehouse architectures and implementations
• Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
• Understanding of real-time analytics and event-driven architectures
• Background in building and optimizing high-throughput data pipelines
