AI Prompt Engineer & Agent Builder

Posted 2026-05-05
Remote, USA Full-time Immediate Start

Data Skill Source is hiring an AI Prompt Engineer & Agent Builder to design, test, and iterate on intelligent agents for a large, fast-growing SaaS client.

This role is ideal for someone who actively experiments with AI in their spare time, has strong technical intuition, and enjoys taking ownership of loosely defined problems and turning them into working systems.

If you’re the kind of person who builds agents, scripts, or automations because you’re curious, not because you were told to — we want to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

    Agent & Prompt Development
  • Design, test, and optimize prompts that guide AI agents through multi-step, real-world workflows.
  • Build and refine AI agents that automate operational and business processes.
  • Debug agent behavior, improve reliability, and iterate quickly based on results.
  • Translate high-level goals into working agent logic without needing step-by-step instructions.
    Problem Solving & Execution
  • Take initiative on tasks and move them forward independently.
  • Make reasonable assumptions when requirements are incomplete, while knowing when to ask clarifying questions.
  • Understand the purpose of each task so you can choose the right technical approach.
  • Experiment with different prompt structures, tools, and workflows to find what works best.
    Collaboration & Documentation
  • Work closely with internal and client teams to map business processes into agentic workflows.
  • Clearly document prompt strategies, configurations, and system behavior for future use.
  • Share learnings and improvements with the team as systems evolve.

What We’re Looking For

    Core Traits (Non-Negotiable)
  • Strong technical intuition — you can figure things out without everything being spelled out.
  • High level of initiative — you naturally take ownership and move tasks forward.
  • Ability to understand why something is being built, not just what to do.
  • Comfort making assumptions, testing them, and adjusting as you go.
    Technical Skills
  • Hands-on experience with LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.).
  • Strong prompt design, testing, and optimization skills.
  • Some programming or scripting background (Python, JS, or similar).
  • Comfort working with workflows, APIs, or system configuration.
  • Experience building chatbots, agents, automations, or internal tools.
    Personal Projects (Highly Valued)
  • You’ve built AI agents, prompt workflows, or automations on your own time.
  • You experiment with new models, tools, or techniques outside of work.
  • You can talk concretely about what you’ve built, what broke, and what you learned.

Note: Formal titles matter less than demonstrated ability. We care far more about what you’ve built than where you’ve worked.

    What We Offer
  • $40–$45 CAD/hour, depending on experience
  • 30+ hours/week, consistent long-term work
  • Fully remote (Canada or US)
  • MacBook Pro provided
  • Work on real, production-grade AI agents used by high-growth SaaS teams
  • Opportunity to grow into senior agent, technical lead, or AI systems roles
