Position Overview
We are seeking a talented and passionate Data Scientist to join our dynamic Analytics team within the Last Mile delivery division. In this critical role, you will be responsible for building cutting-edge machine learning models and applying advanced statistical methodologies to enhance driver performance, optimize delivery algorithms, and improve overall operational efficiency. This is an exciting opportunity to work on complex, real-world problems that directly impact millions of customers and thousands of delivery drivers across the nation.
As part of our Trust & Safety team, you will leverage your expertise in deep learning, predictive analytics, and data visualization to develop robust solutions that ensure safety, fairness, and efficiency in our delivery ecosystem. You'll work closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including business analysts, engineering teams, and product managers, to deliver actionable insights and scalable machine learning solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Learning Model Development: Build, train, and optimize machine learning models using parametric and non-parametric statistical methods to improve the performance of driver abuse detection and driver search algorithms within our Last Mile delivery network.
- Model Maintenance & Optimization: Drive weekly status updates and handle ad-hoc requests or queries related to driver abuse models and escalations from business stakeholders, including account escalation management.
- Feature Engineering: Incorporate missing purchase order data into driver abuse models and implement necessary modifications to enhance model accuracy and predictive power.
- Trust & Safety Analytics: Develop and maintain driver abuse detection models used by the Trust & Safety team to identify potentially problematic drivers and take appropriate actions based on model outputs.
- Advanced Deep Learning: Apply deep learning methodologies, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), neural networks, image classification, decision trees, random forests, clustering algorithms, K-means, and T-SNE for pattern recognition and anomaly detection.
- Pipeline Automation: Automate the driver abuse pipeline for daily and hourly reporting by implementing additive models and efficient data processing workflows.
- Demand Forecasting: Build new store launch demand prediction pipelines using ensemble methods, time series forecasting, and regression algorithms to predict order volume in real-time and estimate driver supply needed to meet demand.
- Model Operations: Run and maintain hourly and daily driver abuse models while ensuring system reliability, accuracy, and timely execution.
- Dashboard Development: Create powerful reporting and dashboards using data visualization tools and libraries including Python visualization packages, GGplot, Matplotlib, Plotly, and Tableau to generate meaningful graphical representations of data and model outcomes.
- Business Intelligence: Support client requirements and design data representations for complex datasets to drive strategic decision-making.
- Predictive Modeling: Develop end-to-end predictive models for product improvements and optimization of existing features, from problem definition to deployment.
- Model Evaluation: Apply best practices for model optimization, testing, and tuning using statistical metrics including Chi-square, ROC curves, and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) to evaluate accuracy, fit, validity, and robustness of multi-level models and model ensembles.
- Statistical Analysis: Perform extensive data and statistical analysis by extracting relevant information using coding tools such as Python, Pandas, and SQL from diverse data sources and employing data mining techniques to understand underlying distributions (including left-skewed, right-skewed, normal distributions, Central Limit Theorems, standard deviations, and measures of central tendency) and patterns in data.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in an analytics, data science, or related field.
- Strong foundation in machine learning and deep learning algorithms, including supervised and unsupervised learning techniques.
- Proficiency in predictive, statistical, and analytical modeling with demonstrated experience in exploratory data analysis strategies.
- Solid understanding of parametric and non-parametric distributions and their applications in model development.
- Experience with model evaluation, validation, fit assessment, testing, tuning, and validation methodologies.
- Understanding of feature engineering and the impact of variables and features on model performance.
- Demonstrated ability to create compelling data visualizations and dashboards using tools such as Python libraries, GGplot, Matplotlib, and Tableau.
- Strong skills in data extraction, manipulation, and pre-processing using SQL and database technologies.
- Proficiency in coding languages including Python, Pandas, and SQL.
- Experience with code development, testing, and version control systems such as Git and GitHub.
- Ability to analyze underlying trends and data distributions to identify pain points and recommend improvements to product teams.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to facilitate collaboration across different functions and teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Computer Science, or Data Science.
- Experience working with large-scale distributed computing systems.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and big data technologies.
- Familiarity with logistics, supply chain, or last-mile delivery operations.
- Published research or contributions to open-source projects in machine learning or data science.
- Experience with A/B testing and experimental design methodologies.
