About the position
Join as a Backend Engineer and help rebuild payments for the >$1tn distribution industry. You’ll architect and build the systems that process millions of dollars in transactions daily, integrate with complex ERP systems, and leverage cutting-edge LLM technology to transform how distributors manage their revenue cycles. You’ll join a small team of A+ players where everyone acts as an individual contributor while actively supporting each other through pair programming and collaborative problem-solving. You’ll work closely with our founder-led team who previously operated a distribution business and understand the real-world problems we’re solving.
Responsibilities
• Architect and build systems that process millions of dollars in transactions daily.
• Integrate with complex ERP systems.
• Leverage LLM technology to transform how distributors manage their revenue cycles.
• Own high-volume payment processing systems and secure financial APIs.
• Own deep integrations with major ERPs (NetSuite, Sage, Acumatica, etc.).
• Own LLM-powered workflows (credit decisions, remittance matching, automated comms).
• Own real-time data pipelines handling millions of financial records.
• Own AR / collections automation that directly impacts customer cash flow.
Requirements
• 4+ years of backend experience with strong system design chops.
• Expert-level Ruby on Rails (Rails 7+, Ruby 3+).
• Advanced PostgreSQL (query optimization, large datasets, logical replication, etc.).
• Proven ability to design clean, versioned REST/JSON APIs.
• Experience shipping and operating ETL/background-job heavy systems in production.
• AI-Native: You already use Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar every single day. You treat AI as a pair programmer, not a toy or a threat.
• Product-minded: You obsess over the “why” behind features, dig into customer data (or talk to customers), and measure success in revenue and user love — not story points.
• Ownership > tasks: You hate being blocked. When something is unclear or broken, you prototype, reach out directly, pair, or just ship a pragmatic solution.
• Builder mentality: Strong opinions, weakly held. You default to shipping the simplest thing that works (often with AI help), then iterate fast.
Nice-to-haves
• Built or maintained third-party integrations with enterprise software.
• Real fintech, payments, or billing experience (Stripe, ACH, lockbox, etc.).
• Hands-on LLM integration or prompt engineering (bonus if you’ve shipped it to production).
Benefits
• Flexible paid time off
• Up to $100/mo wellness reimbursements
• Competitive stock option grant
• Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with 100% of premiums paid
• Quarterly team gatherings for periodic in-person collaborative strategy and work sessions
• A passionate, supportive team dedicated to learning and growing together.
