They are seeking an Associate Underwriter I to underwrite new business accounts for various insurance products, support sales and profitability goals, and maintain relationships with internal teams.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite new business accounts for Life, AD&D, Short Term Disability (STD), Family Medical Leave (FML), and Long Term Disability (LTD), typically covering 100 to 500 lives, with a focus on 100 to 250 lives
- Work with other business partners on cross-sale opportunities to promote alignments within the Benefits Division's product portfolio
- Support Symetra's sales, profitability, persistency, and growth goals by applying training and showing proficiency in risk evaluation and pricing
- Review Request for Proposal (RFP) submissions by verifying census data and plan information
- Request additional information when needed
- Develop and analyze manual ratings
- Use historic premium and claims data, if applicable, with a credibility formula
- Develop and communicate new business rate recommendations according to pricing targets and authority level
- Underwrite large market inforce customer accounts (Life coverage for accounts over 500 lives, generally up to 1,000 lives; Supplemental Health generally up to 5,000 eligible lives)
- Process sold accounts and renewals following established procedures while managing a book of business
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with Symetra sales, field and home office service and actuarial teams
- Participate in projects and training initiatives as assigned
- Maintain accurate and up to date reporting of assigned presales and renewals
Skills
- 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience required
- 0-2 years of cumulative, relevant experience
