The State of Oklahoma's Oklahoma Tax Commission is seeking a Legal Secretary to provide confidential secretarial and administrative support to attorneys within the Legal Division. The role involves preparing legal documents, ensuring compliance with deadlines for court filings, and assisting with various administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Performs secretarial and administrative support services for attorneys; composes and prepares various legal documents, correspondence, exhibits and forms
- Assists attorneys in ensuring that deadlines are met for court filings; files orders, judgments, pleadings, briefs and other documents on behalf of attorneys
- Reviews legal documents, researches applicable facts and prepares responses as appropriate
- Provides file maintenance for hard copy and electronic files, including scanning case files, copying pleadings and maintaining case logs for review and action by attorneys
- Operates a variety of office equipment; screens phone calls and receives visitors; provides requested assistance or information; opens, reviews and distributes mail
- Processes incoming checks received by the Legal Division as assigned
- Assists with training and cross training of other Legal Division employees as requested
- Assists in projects as assigned
- Other duties as assigned
Skills
- An associate's degree in business/public administration, law, or closely related field, PLUS one year of experience performing a variety of complex clerical and typing work
- At least three years of experience in performing a variety of complex clerical and typing work
- An equivalent combination of qualifying education and/or experience
- Knowledge of basic legal terms and definitions

- Physical ability to lift up to 15 pounds, to bend, stoop, climb stairs, walk and reach
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Oklahoma State Driver's License
- At least 2 years of experience as a legal secretary
