About the Role
As a Lead DevOps Engineer within our Infrastructure Solutions Group, you'll play a pivotal role in delivering IaaS/PaaS/SaaS capabilities for our ISG development teams. You'll accelerate the speed of innovation by ensuring all critical systems operate 24x7 to support engineering development while simultaneously driving division-wide transformation initiatives to modernize Engineering Operations.
You'll be the technical lead for our "Kubernetes as a Service" offering, presenting solutions to internal clients and helping them meet their requirements for on-demand Kubernetes clusters across our on-premises cloud environments including OpenShift, VMware Tanzu, and Rancher. Your expertise will be crucial in implementing GitOps principles for enterprise-wide cluster provisioning, automation, and day-2 lifecycle management.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Sustainability: Be responsible for the sustainment and maintenance of our core K8s infrastructure platforms orchestrated through OpenShift, Rancher, and Tanzu, ensuring adherence to appropriate standards and best practices in a fast-paced work environment.
- Technical Leadership: Serve as the technical lead for "Kubernetes as a Service," presenting solutions to internal clients and assisting with requirements for on-demand K8s cluster provisioning across on-prem cloud environments (OpenShift, VMware Tanzu, and Rancher) with multiple stages, providing expert guidance.
- GitOps Implementation: Responsible for implementing GitOps principles to incorporate enterprise-wide cluster provisioning, automation, and day-2 lifecycle management using Kubernetes-native CI/CD tools like ArgoCD and Jenkins.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure fundamental security policies are implemented and enforced across all work, including patch management. Aid in documentation of project requirements, statements of work, and service descriptions.
- Disaster Recovery: Ensure backup and recovery for critical assets, including developing and maintaining Disaster Recovery Plans.
- Linux System Administration: Perform Linux system administration on physical and virtual servers, including installation and maintenance of hardware, software, and applications.
- Troubleshooting & Resolution: Investigate, diagnose, and resolve issues with any Kubernetes objects such as deployments, pods, namespaces, replication controllers, daemon sets, schedulers, and more.
- Automation & Scripting: Develop scripts to automate workflows and improve operational efficiency across the infrastructure.
What We're Looking For
Essential Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Industry Experience: Demonstrated industry knowledge and experience in cloud-native frameworks, service-based architecture, container-based solution development, deployment, and operations across various environments and use cases.
- Kubernetes Expertise: Master working knowledge of OpenShift, VMware Tanzu, Kubernetes cluster services with strong background in Kubernetes administration and troubleshooting.
- Container Technologies: Hands-on experience with container technologies including Docker, containerd, CRI-O, Kubernetes, NSX-T, Calico, OVN, and related tools.
- Platform Knowledge: Working knowledge of ACM (Advanced Cluster Management), ACS (Aqua Cloud Security), Tanzu Application Services, and Rancher with a strong background in VMware virtualization, networking/SAN, security, and containerization technologies.
- Automation Expertise: Experience with DevOps practices including continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) for containerized workloads using Jenkins or ArgoCD.
- Programming/Scripting Skills: Programming/Scripting experience with YAML, Python, Shell scripting; experience with configuration management/deployment tools, particularly Ansible automation platform/AWX.
- Monitoring & Load Balancing: Understanding of infrastructure, network, and application monitoring. Hands-on experience with gateway controllers like NGINX/Haproxy software load-balancer and ALB gateway controllers.
- Backup Solutions: Work experience with PPDM backup tool, Velero, and MinIO.
Preferred Qualifications
- Red Hat OpenShift Certifications and Kubernetes certifications such as CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator), CKA (Certified Kubernetes Developer), or CKS (Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist) are a strong plus.
- Experience using ServiceNow, Jira, and Infoblox for IT service management and IP address management.
- Experience with GitOps workflows and tools beyond ArgoCD.
- Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code practices using Terraform or Pulumi.
- Familiarity with observability stacks including Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK/EFK stack.
