About This Role
The Pharmacy Customer Service Associate plays a vital role in ensuring smooth pharmacy operations while delivering outstanding service to every customer who walks through our doors or contacts us remotely. This position requires a unique blend of interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of pharmacy practices and procedures. You'll be working closely with licensed pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and store management to provide comprehensive support that ensures patients receive their medications safely, accurately, and efficiently.
In this role, you will be responsible for registering customer transactions, processing prescriptions, managing inventory, and addressing customer inquiries with empathy and expertise. Key Responsibilities
As a Pharmacy Customer Service Associate at arenaflex, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Customer Service Excellence: Greet and assist customers with enthusiasm and professionalism. Listen actively to customer needs, resolve issues promptly, and ensure every interaction results in a positive experience that reflects arenaflex's commitment to exceptional service.
- Register Operations: Operate the designated sales register to process customer purchases accurately. Handle cash, credit, and debit transactions, process voids, returns, exchanges, and refunds as needed. Ensure all transactions are completed efficiently while maintaining proper accounting procedures.
- Prescription Processing: Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, utilize pharmacy systems to enter patient and medication information accurately. Retrieve, count, pour, and verify prescription medications to ensure accuracy and safety. Check for potential drug interactions and flag any concerns to the pharmacist immediately.
- Inventory Management: Assist with maintaining pharmacy inventory by checking stock levels, pricing products, and organizing shelves. Receive and store pharmaceutical shipments, ensuring proper storage conditions are maintained. Report any discrepancies, damaged products, or inventory issues to management.
- Product Recommendations: Suggest items to customers based on their needs and recommend complementary products. Assist customers in locating items in the pharmacy and over-the-counter aisles, providing product information and answering basic health-related questions.
- Compliance and Safety: Strictly adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations regarding controlled substances, pharmacy operations, and patient privacy (HIPAA). Follow arenaflex policies and procedures, including the Quality Improvement Program, to minimize prescription errors and ensure patient safety.
- Administrative Duties: Process manual insurance claims, update patient records, and perform other administrative tasks as assigned by the Pharmacy Director or store management. Handle phone calls that do not require pharmacist intervention, including physician callbacks and customer inquiries.
- Merchandising: Build and maintain eye-catching product displays, including promotional, seasonal, and sale items. Complete resets and corrections as directed and assist with proper product positioning to enhance the shopping experience.
- Photo Center Support: Provide customer service in the photo department, including digital photo printing, banner printing, and special photo orders. Process web orders and deliver completed orders to customers in a timely manner.
- Store Maintenance: Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming store environment. Ensure pharmacy counters, displays, and waiting areas are neat and well-presented at all times.
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with fellow team members, pharmacists, and management to ensure seamless operations. Support colleagues during peak times and contribute to a positive work environment.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education and Certification
- Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is preferred. However, we value diverse backgrounds and experience, and we encourage all qualified candidates to apply.
- Preferred: PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) certification or willingness to obtain certification through arenaflex's designated training program.
Essential Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English is required (with exceptions as permitted by law).
- Strong mathematical skills to accurately count, measure, and weigh medications.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with customers and colleagues.
- Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with point-of-sale systems.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
Preferred Experience
- Six months or more of experience in a retail customer service environment is preferred.
- Previous experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting is a plus but not required.
- Familiarity with inventory control procedures and store operations.
- Knowledge of over-the-counter products and basic health and wellness information.
