The Role: Data Engineering Manager
We are seeking a talented and motivated Data Engineering Manager to lead our data initiatives within the Quality division of our game development studios. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of data engineering and game development, helping shape how data powers the creation of world-class gaming experiences. In this role, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining robust data pipelines that support our portfolio of acclaimed game franchises.

You'll be working closely with talented Data Scientists, Applied Researchers, and Quality Specialists to integrate sophisticated data solutions into our game development pipeline. Key Responsibilities
As a Data Engineering Manager at arenaflex, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our data engineering efforts and mentoring a high-performing team. Your responsibilities will include:
- Team Leadership and Mentorship: Support and mentor team members in building efficient code to extract raw data, coach the team on techniques to improve data quality, and apply your deep expertise to ensure the right data is ingested across the pipeline.
- Data Tool Development: Lead the development of data tools used to transform, manage, and access data. Provide guidance on writing and validating code to test the functionality and availability of data platforms, ensuring they are robust and reliable.
- Performance Monitoring: Direct the implementation of performance monitoring protocols across data pipelines, training the team on building visualizations and dashboards to monitor pipeline health. Coach others on implementing solutions and self-healing processes that minimize vulnerabilities across various products.
- Data Governance and Compliance: Help identify data governance needs, oversee the design of data models, and implement systems to ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and policies. Lead data accessibility within your assigned pipelines.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Prepare team members for meetings with appropriate stakeholders across teams and address concerns around data requirements by providing guidance on feature evaluation. Assist in assessing data costs, access, usage, use cases, dependencies across products, and availability for business or client scenarios.
- Strategic Planning: Contribute to strategic planning initiatives related to data infrastructure and contribute to roadmap development for data engineering initiatives.
Required Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must possess the following qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Programming, Computer Engineering, or a related field AND 4+ years of experience in business analysis, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering work.
- Alternative Education: Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Programming, Computer Engineering, or a related field AND 3+ years of experience in business analysis, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering work.
- Cloud Experience: 3+ years of experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable and resilient cloud-based big data solutions.
- Data Governance: 1+ year(s) of experience in data management, data stewardship, or a similar role.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will help you stand out:
- Experience working in the gaming or entertainment industry, with familiarity of game development cycles and pipelines.
- Strong background in distributed computing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, or similar technologies.
- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data engineering, such as Python, Scala, or Java.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.
- Knowledge of data warehousing solutions and modern data architectures, including data lakes and lakehouses.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
